If we did not have a memory, we would not be able to create a thought.  We would not be able to think.  We would only be able to react to the environment. Under the same initial conditions, each of our reactions would be identical. Growth would only come from the changing conditions.  Memories give the ability to choose, to have options, and to predict.  We live and function in a memory bubble.

So, every thought is a memory.  Every memory has been tagged with an emotion, whether it is obvious, or not.  That is the physical  process.  Every decision came out of a memory-based set of instructions.  A memory is the stored-up past. A memory is not new as what is being stored as a memory had already happened.  Ideas are just one set of memories attached to another set of memories.  Nothing new.  Creativity is fundamentally something that is new and has not  been experienced before. 

So, how does one have something new which has never been experienced before?  Even when one travels to a foreign place and sees for the first time strange things, is that really new?  No, even though the buildings, the trees, and the city are not the same as one’s home land, it still has elements of similar characteristics.  One is just adding to an already existing category: here’s another type of tree; here’s another type of bird; here’s another type of architecture; and so on.

Being new is not a reshuffling and adding new cards to a deck of playing cards.  The reason it can never be new is that the thoughts, the decisions, and the actions are all from a memory.  One is still captured with this memory-based process of existence.  One is still inside the memory bubble.

For something to be new, the experience is created from the expanding force. It is then  this expanding force that is doing the actual selecting of the playing cards, selecting and creating the actions.  This is the newness of new.  Does not come from oneself, but from outside.  It is immediate to the specific situation.

For example, a person touches you from behind.  Immediately, the memory kicks in: who is this person, a stranger or friend? where am I? is it a hard touch, or a violent thrust?  From these memories, one acts to the past.  If one responds to the newness created by the expanding force, then the action is based on the specific touch and is immediate.  No memory is involved.  This experience has never been done before.  Because the world is always changing and so will be my reactions.  Memories prevent this!  Memories are in the past with emotional attachments!
