Reciprocate ALL the feels!
Apparently, part of ‘romantic’ for my wife is reciprocating romantic feelings. Like one of her deepest fears seems to be me “falling out of love” for her.
Yeah, that makes it double-awkward. I’m here for her; I’ll always be here for her. And I feel like that’s more stable than a romantic bond? Because I’m not driven by some external compulsion that could fade any time. But she wants that bond to be felt both ways forever.
I feel a bit uncomfortable with being expected to return some feeling in general. It’s not like I directly control my emotions? And even if I did, wouldn’t that be totally fake to actively turn on the loves? I’d end up in the same situation: she’d be just as threatened by an ability to choose non-love.
Trying to get this to be logical just doesn’t work here. Sometimes I wonder if other people understand it, or if it’s a mystery we all just live with.
