To Catch a Star

ArtFight attack on @starrystories2 of her OC Relaner!

Honestly you had me at “fantasy farm girl” but “fantasy farm girl trying to fit in with nobility”??  Color me intrigued  👀

So... here’s another Character bio. Let’s get started.

So, Relaner is the daughter of a Jade farmer in Lenndabar. 

Her father was often away delivering their produce to markets, so he was often away. (which will cause more issures later)Her mom, unbeknownst to her and her siblings, is a star mage (a magical halfborn [half kairuss and half Volvalen) (which means a lot of things, that I can’t really get into now). Speaking of her siblings she has a lot of them: Novio(boy), Wendala(girl), Jophery(boy), and Findad(boy) are her older siblings, and Sen(boy), Tira (girl), and Ovi (boy) are her younger siblings.

So, one big happy family

Now, I’m going to forcably rip out your hearts :) as one does.

It all starts when Jophery starts acting strange. He becomes very quite and reclusive until one day, he runs away. Relaner’s father leaves not long after that(to find him, but Relaner being 7 and her father leaving first thing without so much as a goodbye, he forgets to mention why he leaves)(parent fail, but I promise he’s trying his best)

And if things couldn’t get any worse...remember that plague that killed Riema’s mom...

yeah... I think you guys know where this is going.

The plague reaches their house and pretty much all the people who are their get it (Novio gets a pretty mild case of it and is able to help everyone else as much as possible)Relaner’s dad comes back from looking for Jophery without any luck to find out that his whole family is sick and he can’t see them.

Ovi dies first, then the mom, then Tira, Sen, Findad, and, finally Wendala. Relaner nearly dies too, but with Novio their as her nurse, she pulls through. 

Finally, after they have finally recovered, the dad comes home. And Relaner is MAD! But of course she doesn’t talk to him about it. So, things go on, (rather tensly though)

Because of their shared experience, Novio and Relaner become really close (if you asked Relaner, she would say that Novio was the one who really raised her). Their father tries his best to keep running the farm. He’s around more now, but still takes long trips (I know that you’re thinking that Relaner’s dad is a jerk, but he’s not, trust me!). Durning the next 8 years, Relaner takes on a lot more responsiblity at the farm and around the house. Her extensive labors at the farm make her very strong for her age. She also took on all of the cooking and cleaning around the house and found it was a good way to get out her bottled emotions, because at this point she’s developed quite the temper (but as mentioned before, tries to keep it under wraps).

So, 8 years after the plague, the Jade house Freita asks Relaner’s father to come help them with some of their crops. Instead, her father sends Novio. He ends up falling in love with Guapa(I know her name is weird, but I promise, she’s boss), the daughter of the head of that house/clan/thing. Her dad is actually totally for it and they get engaged. Relaner and her father come to Palace Freita for a few weeks so they can meet Guapa and Relaner’s father give his blessing. Xefe Freita (Xefe is the Jade male equivalent of like Mr./Sir/master/lord etc. and if you’re still confused I’m refuring to Guapa’s father) offers for Relaner and her father to stay at Palace Freita. Relaner’s father refuses, but insists that Relaner stay there and get a better education. 

At the start of the story, Relaner is watching her brother get married and relises that she’s going to lose a bit of what they have.

Poor Relaner... I haven’t even gotten to all the social status crap she’s going to go throught!

But she’s gonna be a bad butt! A stereotype-defying, song-writing, sword-swinging, world-shaking boss!

I do have some art of Relaner, but it isn’t what Relaner looks like at all, so I don’t know if I’ll post it, but let me know if you want me to post it anyway.

Also, going through these character bios made me realise that there are still a lot of things about the story! 

So, I’ve I got 4 more charater bios to get through, but after that, there are a couple options. 

I could either do character bios on some of the supporting characters, or I can go into explaing different kinds of mages in the magic system, or I could alternate between the two. It’s up to you guys.
