Diana Allers: She’s so boring that when people talk about the most boring mass effect characters, they forget her. The monotonous voice, the real lack of motivation... the fact that they had her as a romance was dumb. However, there wasn’t enough of her writing to really comment on so...Kaidan: He just comes off as a boring sock. That’s how I can best think of him. They wrote him a clichéd tragic backstory, then he becomes a hardened war hero, but what I hate about him is how he plays the victim card regarding his relationship with Shepard. It drove me CRAZY in ME3. He blames her, doesn’t trust her, says she CHEATED on him—I’m still so angry about that—she was dead for two years, then he yelled at her and said he didn’t know her anymore and they didn’t even talk. Where does he get off saying she cheated? She wouldn’t give a shit if he hooked up with someone else. Which actually leads me to the third character.Jacob: In Jacob’s case, my problems are a lot more with his writing than him as a character. His reaction to his father lacked real emotion, and he treated it afterwards as if it had no meaningful impact. He was the ‘nice Cerberus guy’ who just wanted to ‘do something good’. He acts naive—sometimes. He seems to lack consistency, and for all of his moral good, he ends up cheating on Shepard if you romance him in the second game. Unlike the Kaidan Shepard scenario, Shepard was simply on Earth. If Jacob had really cared about her, he would have reached out. Plus afterwards... well, you can see for yourself. He acts like there are no real consequences to his actions. At least, even if Shepard’s case (which I still defend) with Kaidan, she acts sincerely sorry. Jacob just acts like Shep was a bad influence. He acts happy-go-lucky and overall lacks as a character.
