“So you....”

    “YES - fine, Scott and I... USED TO work together.” Work together. Hookup. Same thing, really. 

“So...”  He’s carefully picking Doritos out of the bag in front of him, looking for the ones that have the most orange dust, are the flattest, and whole, making sure each one passes inspection before he adds it to his sandwich in a layer.  It’s a bad habit, okay, it’s one of those things he picked up as a way to save time when eating and now he just can’t stop.

He’s not here to be judged on that.

Besides, this technically isn’t his bag of Doritos, right, so if not now, he’ll have no claim over the best ones in the bag.  He’s lived too long, surrounded by too many hungry powered people, to waste an opportunity to pick through for himself like this, his bag or not.

“You do the whole talk to ants thing here, too, right.  That whole electromagnetic wave Jedi mind trick.  Because if you tell me you just get really tiny, I’m gonna be disappointed.  And also maybe point out you should rethink your name.”  He pauses and licks the cheese dust off his fingers, before finally adding the top slice of bread to the sandwich, pressing down, hard, with his palm, smashing it nearly flat with the snap of broken chips.

“So, uh.  Is...Are Hank and Jan still around?” His friends.  Not that his own Scott isn’t, and not that these are his Hank and Jan, and Hank’s...Hank’s gone, you know, he’s gone and he’s not coming back and Tony’s accepted that, but...It’s a founding Avenger thing.  His or not, there’s an understanding there that doesn’t exist in the ones who came later.  And maybe he just would like to see some familiar faces, talk to people he’ll never have the chance to again, otherwise.  “Or no.”

“ mr. lang, ” blue eyes widen behind his glasses as he looks up at the man entering his office, “ to what do i owe the pleasure? ” he rarely expects the company of any of the avengers, much less when the visits are unplanned. charles mentally prepares himself for the worst as a small frown settles onto his features. “ i hope there’s not a global-scale threat i’m missing out on. ”

“This is why I hate the outside, there’s...There’s so much outside in it.”  That, and things trying to bite him, eat him, make him gross and dirty and...The outdoors would be better if it were inside, okay, and there were air conditioning.  And wifi.  And room service, maybe.  Not...Not all the grass and trees and bugs.  He reaches up, slaps at the tickle he’s felt.  Not today, satan bugs.  Not today.
