leaves socks or other random clothing items laying aroundMakoto sometimes forgets to put them away when he’s tired or distracted. Haru is the overly fastidious housekeeper who picks them up and puts them in their color-coded laundry baskets and maybe mutters to himself that the sea levels should hurry up and rise already, because if they all have to become mermen then they’ll need to wear considerably less clothing altogether.

takes long baths (or the longest, if both do)Pfff. Well, it’s not Makoto, I can tell you that much. Seriously, though, Haru has been getting better about his bathtub fixation ever since he became the resident dolphin whisperer/inadvertent show stopper at the local aquarium/marine wildlife center,** because he now has incentive to leave this body of water for a much bigger body of water. And he gets paid for it! (Which is still not an excuse to run up an exorbitant waterbill, Haru please) ((** And yes, I know how ES ended, but I don’t like it, so that’s my substitute headcanon.))

stays up late working on somethingUsually Makoto, since his job as a marine biologist means he usually brings some form of data or study home to go over it again.

has better fashion senseThey both seem to manage just fine. Haru might not care as much unless it’s about swim trunks, but he seems to be doing alright on the fashion front.

reads moreWell, in terms of volume, it’s Makoto, since reading academic journals and the like is part of his work at the marine wildlife center. Neither of them is a hardcore bookworm, but they do read the occasional novel together. This habit developed way back in the mists of time when they had to read The Cat Who Lived a Million Times for school and Makoto ended up crying himself to sleep for a week straight. Haru eventually had the idea that they should read all future books together so Makoto can skip the scary/depressing parts and get the synopsis from Haru later. The agreement kind of stuck, and Makoto totally still bails on any book that has characters wandering in the woods at night.

works out moreThey’re both pretty active people, but since Haru’s job has him either swimming or running all over the place to take care of their aquatic charges, so he gets more exercise by default.

sleeps in on weekendsBoth. Haru does have his lazy days, though the siren song of the bathtub will wake him sooner rather than later. Makoto rarely gets to wake up next to him, except in winter, when there’s a long cold hallway separating their bedroom from the bathroom and Makoto is – quite unfairly – pleasantly warm.

introduced the other to their parents firstI remain steadfast in my belief that Makoto and Haru were the last people on the planet to realize they’re in love. Seriously. Both parents have had years to get used to the fact that their kids are completely wrapped up in each other. Makoto’s parents were there when their son, age four, came home completely beside himself because someone at kindergarten told him that boys can only marry girls. They were also there when Haru, age eight, solemnly towed over a pull-along wagon full of fish to offer as a “bride price.” And they were there when twelve-year-old Makoto asked them if there was something wrong with him with such a heartbreaking tremble in his voice because some a schoolmate had caught him holding hands with Haru and claimed it was gross.And Haru’s parents pretty much knew the moment the neighbors’ kid got their withdrawn, calm-as-still-water son to look up and say “hi” back.

is more protectiveThey’re both protective of each other, canon’s shown that already. Haru might be the more obviously “weird” person who seems like he needs help just to make himself understood, but Makoto’s gentle and peaceable personality make him really easy to take advantage of or steamroll in casual conversation. So yeah, they look out for each other.

is more likely to flirt when they’re aloneYou know, there was that one time Nagisa tried to instruct them in the grand and venerable art of flirting, and it was terrible. Makoto pretty much just buried his face in his arms and refused to move from that position for the rest of the evening, and Haru obediently parroted every cheesy, groan-inducing line without batting an eyelash and boo, you’re both no fun. Bottom line: They can’t flirt. They’re completely incapable. But anyone who has ever come across them having entire psychic conversations while gazing into each other’s eyes with bottomless affection understands that they don’t really need it.

falls asleep on the couchNeither, really. Makoto might drowse after a long day but Haru is the one who insists he get himself to bed properly before he catches a cold. (Haru’s common sense is quite firm as long as nobody shows him an outdoor pool in April).

is the better driver Makoto. He’s overly cautious, always drives some five kilometers below the speed limit and slows down whenever a streetlight so much as looks like it might turn yellow, but he’s okay as long as he can go at his own pace. Haru, however, avoids driving whenever he can. He doesn’t mind riding in cars, obviously, but the chaos of traffic paired with the responsibility of steering makes him all kinds of twitchy. He’ll swap in to support Makoto when he’s tired or otherwise occupied, but that’s about it.

plans date night most often This presupposes that they “get” dating in the first place. Since they have more or less always been together and do most things together, as well, they have a hard time distinguishing between regular outings and dates once they get together. I mean, yes, obviously, they can now kiss and hold hands and sneak into secluded spots to make out, but apart from that, a visit to the amusement park or going to see a movie or going out to eat is just that. So either getting together means that every outing is now a date (because they’re bound to kiss at some point), or none of them is. Huh. Hrrrrm.
