“you – you can really hear it that clearly?” belle has to wonder, then, if a day will ever come when she’s not awed by ruby’s nature. if a sunrise will ever pass into sunset where she hasn’t marveled at the way the wolf and the woman blend seamlessly into one; how they have since the day ruby finally accepted both halves of herself. now, looking down at the woman nestled against her chest, green eyes unfocused as she listens carefully to a melody that she alone can hear, she doubts it ever will.
“it’s beating that loud because of you, you know.” in both senses of the phrase, belle thinks with a smile as her fingers tangle through dark hair, gently combing it smooth. “what does it sound like? to you, i mean.” she hears ruby’s too, of course, whenever she finds herself in the werewolf’s embrace. well, feels it would be more accurate, because even then it’s little more than a faint thump beneath her ear. suddenly, belle is filled with the need to hear the way ruby does, if only for a day; just long enough to understand this, to have the same window into ruby’s heart that the woman has to hers. “i can hear yours, sometimes, but not the same way you do.”
