The sound cut through the night-- it was a piercing sound that made Tsume cover his ears and grit his teeth. He was in his human form despite being away from any cities-- sometimes it was just more convenient. Tearing himself away from his thoughts, he focused on the sound, off in the distance.
It was a long, sorrowful howl, one that could only have come from the pup. Without another thought his feet set into motion, heading towards the sound-- was Toboe hurt? The pitiful whimper following the howl meant something bad; he knew that much for sure. Upon arrival, the first thing he noticed was the scent of blood; he'd been right. Quickly rushing to the side of the smaller red wolf, he looked down at him and frowned. There was a long cut running down his leg but it wasn't exceptionally deep, thankfully.
"What the hell, runt?" Tsume's gruff voice demanded once he was able to find his words.
The pup looked up and gave another pitiful whimper, "Tsume, I was trying to--"
"Damn it, that doesn't matter," the older man snarls, baring his teeth at him.
" . . . Were you worried about me, Tsume?"
The fire crackled and popped; Tsume leaned against the wall of the cave and Toboe laid curled up on the ground, trying to rest.
" . . . Hey runt; you awake?"
Toboe looks up at him, sleepy brown eyes only half focused on him-- it was rather late after all.
Clearing his throat, the large man looks into the fire and speaks, "Next time you're in trouble. . . howl for me, okay? Just howl and I'll be there."
Nodding, Toboe smiles lightly. "Okay."
