Fuck, Grace telling Stratt that Redell “deserves” to be in maximum security prison for deaths caused criminal negligence. Stratt actually agreeing with him and telling Redell that he bears responsibility for the deaths.
Redell's actual crime meanwhile? That he wasn't there. Like, also embezzlement, but the reason he's considered responsible for the deaths of his workers is because he wasn't on site when it happened and it's possible that, if he had been there supervising, the accident wouldn't have happened.
Three people walk out of that prison cell. All three of them end up guilty of the same crime.
Redell's workers died because he was on vacation instead of supervising. Maybe it would have worked out the same if he had been there, but what if it hadn't?
Shapiro and Dubois (and nearly Grace) died because of a stupid mixup with measurements that I bet Stratt blamed herself for for the rest of her life. Maybe there was nothing she could have done, but what if there was?
Grace fully decided to ditch the Hail Mary Project and let somebody else go in his place, even though he was putting the whole planet at risk. Sure, maybe everything would have worked out fine if somebody else went instead, but what if it had to be him?
