Undyne, Royal Mechanic Scientist

She is, on paper, the Royal Scientist, but due to the state of emergency the queen has the kingdom in, her job is more like of a mechanic's.

A complete antisocial hermit, almost impossible to see outside her laboratory/workshop, she spends her time working on machinery that aids the cause, but she would truly love to conduct experiments and research.

In her environment, she's a master of her skill, to the point that she created two extendable arms (which she would later use in her Napsta model) that grant her greater mobility and speed while working.

The moment someone else is in front of her tho, she'll fall flat on her face and have two left feet.

She has zero social skills, reinforced by her preference for working alone, and this has only worsened with what she determined to be the "best way" to improve it: Visual Novels.

Choice-based games where you can see each character's friendship level, where a mistake is fixed simply by restarting the game and changing the option. Where she can be however she wants to end up in a relationship with her beloved love interested.

In the moments when she's not working or playing, she spends her time watching the other monsters through the security cameras, which has only further distorted her perception of things, since to her, what she's seeing is more like her games than images of real people's daily lives.

The combination of these things probably explains her unhealthy obsession with Alphys. A self-proclaimed Alphys fan, she has a shrine to her somewhere in the lab, monitoring her every move through the cameras.

She considers Alphys the true hero of the Underground, and therefore detests Sans with a passion only comparable to that of the dinosaur. When her idol approached her to ask for "her help," how could she refuse?

Alphys & Undyne Relationship: It's complex

Clearly, it doesn't have the healthiest start, much less a sincere history.

Alphys is aware of the fish's fanaticism towards her and takes advantage of it to get things that help her, without caring about the problems it might cause.

Undyne, on the other hand, idolizes the guard, sees nothing wrong with her actions, and supports her 100% (is she aware that she's being used? in a way, but considering that she would help her anyway, she doesn't see it as a bad thing).

What can be salvaged from this? Obsession aside, Undyne's admiration is genuine: she considers Alphys a capable and skilled person, second to no one, something that later helps Alphys improve her self-esteem. For her part, the dinosaur finds Undyne's creations cool, inventive, and original. She's seen how Undyne behaves when she thinks no one is watching and finds her attractive (though her mind is too consumed by revenge to dwell on it).

Papyrus & Undyne Relationship: Help me Help you

How do you stop the crazy Alphys-obsessed girl with access to security cameras from trying to kill your brother? Bribe.

Papyrus has his hands full enough with having to intervene every time the dinosaur tries to sabotage Sans; he doesn't want to deal with the crazy mechanic too.

So, considering she never leaves her lab, the skeleton is her personal delivery for anything she needs from outside: new games found in the junkyard, parts for the machinery she's building, guard posters with Alphys's image, etc...

What does the skeleton get out of it? On one hand, it keeps her busy with her hobbies and prevents her from trying to harm Sans. On the other hand, it gives him the opportunity to get contraband for the resistance when they ask him to.

Does Undyne care that he does that? Not really, considering that the Queen is another enemy in her eyes for having taken Alphys's rank.

They both get what they want.
