World Context // Reddish Masterpost (under construction)
Alphys, Ex Captain Royal Guard
She was perfect, the captain of the guard, the role model for the cause, Toriel's pride.
All of this crumbled the moment Sans challenged her to a duel for her rank and she lost miserably. The skeleton wiped the floor with her and turned her into a disappointment in the eyes of the queen: "If only you were better, if only you had what it takes, but no, you are incapable of that".
From being confident, proud, and haughty, Alphys transformed into someone with severe self-esteem issues, perfectionism, and a complex about always being second best to Sans.
Toriel is the closest thing to a mother she ever had, and being the light of her eyes from a young age was her main motivation. Losing that broke something inside her, and this transformed into a resentment against who "stole it from her" that burns every time it's brought up.
The queen, in particular, reinforces this whenever Alphys is in her presence, forcing her to wear her former captain's uniform but without the rank, to "prove that if she tried a little harder, she could be better".
What use is this to the queen?
In her corrupted perception of things, it gives her a "card up her sleeve" in case something happens to the captain of the guard. Furthermore, it provides motivation to avoid mistakes, given that someone is willing to do anything to take his position.
And by everything, we mean absolutely everything. Alphys tries to sabotage Sans every chance she gets, whether it's by trying to make him fail missions or by upgrading her weaponry to the latest available technology.
She manages to do the latter by manipulating the Royal Mechanic to give her the latest creations before the rest of the guard.
Sans knows Alphys has a vendetta against him, yes, but his abilities are enough to get the job done. Or at least that's what he thinks, because Papyrus is keeping a watchful eye out in the shadows, preventing several of these sabotage attempts, and since a large part of his work is in Snowdin, the dino can't get there because of the cold.
🔺With Shaky on the run, word quickly spread that the seventh human had fallen into the Underground. While Papyrus tried to stop Sans, the kid arrived to Waterfall where they were unpleasantly surprised to find that the skeleton wouldn't be the only royal guard they'd have to escape.

Muffet, Head Chef of Snowdin's Community Dining Room
She is an excellent chef who, like everyone in the beginning, did not hesitate to serve the crown and the cause of the queen; Both she and her family wanted to help their loved ones and be a help to the community.
Her skills were considered appropriate to be in charge of the Community Dinning Room of the distant town of Snowdin, regardless of the problem that the cold of the place would generate for her people. Orders are orders and like everyone else, still believing that the Queen made the best decisions, she kept silent and began her work.
The resources at her disposal were always scarce and strictly controlled, leaving her with no choice but to constantly cook bland meals, with just enough rations for every residents in town, specially the guard.
Time passed and the original paranoia, as the good will of the cause, ended up dying. What at some point she believed would be a help to the community, she slowly understood was nothing more than another way to control people.
The crown provides, but it also restricts. The Community Dining Room was nothing more than an excuse to monitor the monsters, with each resident having to report at least once a week to receive their rations under the watchful eye of the royal guard.
For her, the building is her home and her jail. It's one of the few places that has the necessary conditions to keep her protected from the low temperatures of Snowdin, which limits her mobility and, as it's large enough to accommodate the entire community, it's also used as a warehouse for resources send from the Capital.
In other words, Muffet is limited to cooking and interacting only when serving rations to the other citizens and helping delivering boxes of stuff to the Dog Family, usually under the strict surveillance of the royal guard.
She is one of many monsters who fervently believes that the Queen has gone completely insane and that they cannot live under her rule forever.
For this and her position in the town, she is the one who is in charge of the growing resistance that arose against the crown in this area of the kingdom. Being the very image of calm and composure, no one suspects her involvement, which she has used to slowly provide locals with forbidden resources. In addition to collecting information about the royal guard, especially considering the proximity of the captain.
Her contacts with rebels outside the town have helped them accumulate the necessary power for a possible future rebellion.
In Snowdin, the Dog Family is her main ally, while her own family, made excellent spies due to their size. The cold makes it a dangerous job, but the conviction of overthrowing the Queen and finally opting for a better life is worth it.
No one is particularly sure where it came from, but Muffet calls it her "pet" and its job is to guard the supply storeroom.
Likewise, no one has actually seen it, only its eyes and paws, since it uses a box as camouflage.
Like everyone else in town, Muffet considers Papyrus a waste of space. Even with her own dislike for the royal guard, she can't help but wonder why the captain puts up with him, but even so, she can't deny his usefulness to the cause.
Papyrus lives without much purpose and accepts any job that provides him with his vice, so Muffet did not hesitate to use it to their advantage, especially with the most risky jobs.
The skeleton's loyalty to the queen is non-existent, so he never cared about exposing himself to danger, on the other hand, his concern for his brother still exists, so keeping close to the resistance is a good way to protect him from them.
The deals are simple: Mutt gets the job done and receives his cigars as payment. If caught, he has the immunity of being the brother of the captain of the guard, and while that does not ensure his safety, the resistance will not regret his loss.
Anyway, the skeleton doesn't really seem to care what happens to him and deep down, he enjoys helping ruin the queen's plans.
🔺If Muffet's indifference changes with the arrival of certain small creatures into Papyrus's life and his attitude towards them, she never said it out loud, but Shaky had more alert eyes watching over their safety than they ever knew about while in Snowdin.

The Bunny family
One of the two great families of the town, they suffered prejudices similar to those that Sans experienced in his training, but they proved their worth and all "adults" are soldiers.
The captain chose them to form his team and they are eternally grateful to him for it, since he gave them the opportunity to work closer to their home and look out for their children who are numerous.
Sans will never accept it out loud, but the rabbits practically adopted him as part of the family and their fidelity is 100% with him, so any "rebel" is their enemy.
Their condition as rabbits made them particularly efficient at their work in that type of environment. They are silent as ghosts, fast to run on snow and with perfect hearing, so they have their own code that they communicate by hitting the trees (similar to a morse code).
How did I swaped the royal guard?
This is the diagram I made, and if you're wondering about the names, I wanted to use something that makes a "reference" to their original "names" in the game (which half don't have perse, just a reference of what they do).
In terms of personality, they're something like this:
Chopper, the first in command
After Sans in the ranks of this sector, she's the one who leads the family. She's a mother to several of the children in the house and the one Toriel entrusted Asriel to, so she's the closest to the goat boy. Patient, strict, but with a mother's warmth, she takes care of her team and Sans (whom she adopted as another one of her children).
Drew, the silent one
A bunny of few words and unpredictable movements, she seems to be in a daze all the time, although it's known that she doesn't consume any alcohol.
She's usually the one in charge of quick patrols in open areas due to her agility and speed. Furthermore, her small size makes her difficult to detect.
Her specialty are knives, and she can often be seen practicing target shooting.
Inny, the second in comman
The one who follows Chopper in rank both on guard duty and at home.
A perfectionist, elegant, and precise, she always excelled in training thanks to her knowledge and discipline.
Sans's right-hand bun and the one who often accompanies him on missions to other sectors.
Gia and Kit, the siblings (youngest of the team)
Siblings recently graduated from training, so they don't yet have formal guard uniforms.
Experts in teamwork, they are a formidable duo responsible for patrolling the town and collecting the queen's tax.
While Gia is all about precise attacks and cuts to weak points, Kit is all about brute force and frontal assault.

Finally, the reason why I ended up creating the whole world.
The story doesn't happen without the Pets and Shaky; they're part of the universe here, not like in the others (Tale and Fell).
World Context // Reddish Masterpost (under construction)
Old Designs (And those used in almost all existing drawings of the story)
What are the pets?
"Simply put, the pets are a “type” of monster. A species that, although it shares something as basic as the need of a soul to exist, it has its own characteristics. The best known, the fact that they can change shape for periods of time.
Its default form is the animal one, not the skeleton. For the same reason, pets are much more primitive than a skeleton monster. Because they are essentially animals. They are of course much more conscious than any common animal, but even so, they cannot speak any spoken language"
🔺How did they get their pets?
Considering this started as standalone stories with no intention of being a proper AU in 2018, doing this update I realized I never said this particular info publicly? So, new info for everyone!
Papyrus was the one who found both animals one day as he was returning from talking to his friend, the voice of the door in the forest.
He found a strange purple lump in the snow, which he almost stepped on, and with nothing else to do, he decided to bend down and investigate, noticing that the purple thing was a piece of cloth around the neck of a little trembling mouse.
The strangest thing wasn't that tho, since the animal was biting hard onto what at first glance looked like a piece of leather.
It was a matter of lifting the animal to realize that it wasn't a piece, but the tail, or rather, the tip of the entire body of a snake that was completely buried under the snow.
It was quite a bizarre sight, considering it looked as if the mouse had tried to eat the snake, not the other way around. So, even in his usual apathy, Papyrus found it amusing and took an interest in the little creature.
Determining to give it a chance (since it was probably close to freezing in the snow), he tried to get it to release what he thought was the reptile's carcass. But not only did the mouse not budge, the snake showed faint signs of life.
At that moment, he made a decision that would change quite a few things in the future. Instead of throwing them away in the snow, he put them in his jacket pocket and continued on his way home.
Papyrus & Batchis
Batchis is a rather unusual mice, considering he thinks he's a bat and even flaunts the piece of cloth around his neck as if it were his wings.
Papyrus realized this peculiarity when, once the little animal recovered its energy, the first thing it tried to do was jump off the highest piece of furniture it could find, flapping its little paws.
The skeleton found him adorable and, with a little magic, granted his wish to fly (which only worsened his belief). Batchis, for his part, didn't question too much where the giant came from, but he was warm and let him climb on him to be higher up, so everything worked out for him. Also, for some reason, he could "fly better" with Papyrus around.
What did Sans have to say about it? He was quite angry, saying they didn't need another burden in the house, much less a rat (Batchis yelled at him indignantly for that). But Papyrus refused to get rid of it, so the "bat" stayed as long as it didn't interfere with their affairs.
Batchis pulled Papyrus out of his monotonous routine, giving him a new focus: a small being who needed his care (especially given his preference for risk-taking and sharp objects). Many might think it was an extra responsibility, but for the skeleton, it was a return to a sense of purpose: He could finally feel like someone capable of caring for another being.
Sans & GG
Okay, this relationship is a little more complex, because for many, it may seem nonexistent, but I swear it does exist!
GG is a very particular case as a pet in general, but in context, this becomes much worse. The snake starts the story with almost no will to live (which is why it was in the snow in the first place), so if you combine this with someone who never wanted him in the first place, it's a recipe for disaster.
GG's time with the skeletons before the human consisted of being found half-dead in the trash by Batchis+Papyrus after Sans threw him there, or him trying to return to the snow to die but being stopped by Batchis and, consequently, Papyrus.
Is it clear why the snake is like this? No, but it's just as important as why Batchis thinks he's a bat. What matters isn't the reason, but how they act because of it.
One thing that is quite clear is that, unlike his own well-being, GG does want Batchis to be safe and sound. He looks after the mouse whenever Papyrus isn't around to stop him from doind something stupic and does everything in his power to make sure nothing happens to him. Batchis, for his part, wants the snake alive and by his side, so there's no way he's going to let him get lost in the snow, even if he has to drag GG back and leave him covered in bites.
Before the human's arrival, Sans refuses to give him his due and only mistreats him (either by kicking him out of the house or literally refusing to do anything for him). GG isn't his pet, he isn't his responsibility, he isn't anything.
For the snake, it's similar; Sans isn't his owner, he's just a nuisance and a potential danger to Batchis, so he opposes him in absolutely everything (If this then evolves into keeping himself alive just to spite him, I hope no one is surprised).
And then... Shaky appears and GG finds his favorite perch.
Of all the pets, GG is the one to spend the most of his time with the human than with his former owner. Sans is the most difficult of the owners, with most of his problems being affection and physical contact. A pet like GG who basically likes to be carried around like a scarf is not the best mix, but this doesn't imply that their relationship does not improve over time, but rather that it's the most different from the others (and it only improves once human enter the equation).
GG is the first to challenge Sans's authority, refusing to accept his mistreatment of others without regard for his own well-being. He's even the first to defend Shaky from the skeleton (though he nearly loses a fang and his life in the attempt), but his action is the snowball that ultimately shatters the status quo between the brothers. His defiance prompts Papyrus to act, and the rest is history.
So, you'll never find Sans with GG perched on top of him or even being petted by him, but there is red collar present in the snake nest of shiny things that nobody knows where he got from.
Fun Fact:
-Batchis is the official name given by Papyrus because the little mouse sneezed every time the skeleton smoked (one of the reasons he quit later).
-GG is the name given by me and the zoo staff. In the story, the snake is never formally named, and the most common way it's referred to is literally "Worm".

🔺Content warning: Manipulation, toxic sibling relationships, overall bad coping mechanisms.
Sans, The Captain of the Royal Guard
He is the example of the ideal soldier: disciplined, effective, strong and obedient. The extension of the will of the queen in the kingdom. Whatever she orders, he will make it happen.
He had a complicated childhood, being only him and his older brother, who pressured him to try and be stronger in a world that was in constant danger of a so-called war.
All the children of the kingdom at a certain age (when they are about to leave the stripes) are recruited for military training.
His short stature and delicate appearance made him the target of ridicule and discrimination by the other rookies and by several of the instructors. Because of this and the resentment that he was beginning to generate for his brother (who continued to push him to become a royal guard), he gave his all to prove otherwise…and it worked, but it made him close in on himself, never showing any weakness and despising anyone who did.
He removed Alphys from her rank with a confrontation in which no one expected him to emerge victorious. He humiliated her by lowering her to a common soldier and received the congratulations of the queen in person, for whom he feels a strong and real respect for since she gave him the opportunity to prove himself.
He truly believes in the cause and would give everything for the kingdom, which could conflict with some questionable decisions of the queen. For the same reason Toriel, not wanting to lose such a loyal and strong subject, ordered him to settle in Snowdin to be the one who would be in charge of intercepting any human who arrived and took him directly with her. It's not his only duty, he must appear to make reports and patrol other sectors, but she keeps him far enough away from the capital to avoid noticing the irregularities that the queen may order behind his back, thus maintaining his loyalty.
In the village he is respected and hated in equal parts. On one hand, he fulfills his duty admirably, looking after the people and their needs. He personally sees that resources reach everyone fairly, especially families with children. But just the same, he expects that everyone follow the protocol without questioning the queen for a second. Also, he doesn't work alone, he has the complete loyalty of Snowdin's guards unit, who are an extension of his will.
*Royal Guards: Snowdin Unit
Papyrus, Sentry in Snowdin's Forest (The judge)
He's for many, nothing more than the pathetic shadow of the captain of the guard. A excuse of an older brother who doesn't excel at anything and can't even keep his job as a sentry.
Quiet, apathetic and a compulsive smoker, everyone knows that to get something to light he is willing to do whatever job is offered. Nobody understands why the captain still put up with having someone so useless by his side, much less how he agrees to keep him when it's quite clear that neither Sans is able to bear him. In a world that is governed by a compulsive war policy, someone with his characteristics is only considered a burden…and that's how it is supposed to be.
Papyrus from an early age saw himself alone and in charge of his baby brother. With everyone busy preparing for something that never came, no one gave them much thought until younger than any of the other children, he was recruited to give him something to do.
He was never particularly exceptional, but being in training gave him enough stability to support Sans. Anyway, it wasn't long enough for everyone to realize that maybe a soldier wasn't going to be his career after all. His magic was strong, but his body wasn't, specially with stats that left much to be desired. For the same reason, he was taken to meet the Queen and that was the beginning of the end.
She recognized his magic and what was his real role in the kingdom: he was the Judge (a role of ancient magic passed down through generations and randomly assigned to a monster to ensure harmony is maintained between them).
Knowing that she had already done many things that could cost her to be judged, she decided to take the opportunity that he was just a child and kept the secret, but not satisfied with just that, she kept him from his military training to be indoctrinate in a particular way: Make him believe with the bottom of his soul that he is nothing more than a burden. Without any use other than the occasional time she'll call him to do his work, for which I will not pay him what is right because in the end, it's not the great of a thing, right?, only the least he can do to serve his kingdom and queen.
Papyrus was too young to see the deception and fully believed everything that was told, ending with no self-esteem or self-worth. For this reason, in an attempt to prevent his brother from going through the same thing, he demanded too much of Sans, so he be able to overcome himself and become someone different from him.
Too late he understood what had happened and when he wanted to do something, the queen already had Sans in her clutches. Not only was he completely loyal to the queen, but their relationship had deteriorated to such an extent that he already refused to even call him brother.
Without any hope, Papyrus sank deeper into his depression and the only consolation he finds is his addiction, which works only as a temporary placebo that later makes him feel worse. He lives his days in a monotonous way, between the continuous demands of Sans and the illegality of his jobs to get cigarettes.
He doesn't interact with anyone more than necessary and his only close friend is ironically the voice behind a door in the depths of the forest. Every so often he is called before the queen, but in complete secrecy, since no other than her knows of his power, which forbade him to tell everyone, specially his own brother.
*The Reddish Bad Owners
-------------------------------
"You come from the ruins?… A human?… What's your name?… That's not a name. I guess that how that old man called you, right? … It's fine, let me think… Shaky sounds appropriate, right bat?"
Shaky: The Seventh Human
Why "Shaky"? Aren't they supposed to be "Chara"? Yes and no. Formally, the human didn't have a name when they fell into the Underground (or if they did, no monster ever knew it). When Papyrus finds them and discovers this, he decides to name them "Shaky," considering the poor creature was shaking like jelly.
The kid moved from one caregiver to another with particular ease. Papa Asgore said they should trust his friend, and since the friend turned out to be nice, they didn't question it too much. Accustomed to having nothing stable in their life so far, they clung to the first thing that offered him a little security.
Plus, it came with a little friend and a living scarf, cool (?)
Papyrus saw in Shaky the little brother he hadn't been able to protect before, and this finally completed to the sense of purpose that Batchis had started. He would protect the human, since they were a defenseless being who needed his help.
This worked for a while since Sans was on a mission outside of Snowdin, but once word got out that the seventh human had appeared, chaos quickly broke out and Shaky's race for their life began.

🔺Content warning: canon character death but nothing graphic (visual or text).
Toriel: Queen of Monsters
Originally, Toriel was a righteous and motivated queen, always active in her job of caring for her people. She fervently believed in a bright future where monsters could be on the surface again, but tragedy broke her spirit, filling her with hatred and resentment. Especially against compassion, which turned to weakness in her eyes, so she decided to change her way of being… and that of everyone else as well.
A controlling and abusive leader; her word is law and the royal guard takes care of that. Obsessed with the idea of making her kingdom strong and powerful for the "future war" against humans; imposed a strict control over the life of her people. Between murmurs from the darkest corners, you can hear that she lost her mind.
Asgore: Ex King / Caretaker of The Ruins
The total opposite of his wife. While she was fierce and determined, he was calm and meditative. Gentleness in person and, for the same reason, not the best suited to lead a kingdom in a war, but with his partner by his side, they managed to recover and watch over their people in harmony.
The tragedy was a hard blow for him too, but it was even worse for him to see how it affected Toriel's judgment. He tried to bring her compassion back, but he lacked the authority to face her. The arguments between them escalated and Asgore never managed to get to her, specially when he saw what she was capable of in the name of his revenge campaign.
He refused to do what she ordered, so he was considered useless and unnecessary for the kingdom. He had to flee for his life and that led him to the Ruins.
While Toriel channeled her misery into hatred, Asgore turned his into sadness. His life was shattered and he couldn't do anything to save what was left of it, so the depression and isolation only deteriorated his mind.
Frisk: the Dead Angel // MK: the Dead Prince
Really good children. Both believed to be the angel and hope that would save monster kind and return them to the surface. They were adopted made heirs of the royal family once found.
Both kids enjoyed a happy life with their parents while it lasted (wich was some years and the reason they are older).
Even so, they tried and failed the whole "monster with a human soul" to try and free monster kind, who ended up with both their deaths: the tragedy that broke the Queen and King.
With their deaths, the rupture of the royal family was inevitable, as well as the beginning of the queen's thirst for revenge.
IMPORTANT: In this story, there is no Temmie/Flowey Role, so no meta characters or outside influence, as well as no resets. The seventh human is not a player, is a character like everyone else, with only one chance/route.
🔺The corruption of the queen
Toriel in her grief decided that monsters were weak and that caused the death of her children.
"Revenge against human kind" is her greatest motivation and what ended up corrupting her; so even tho she claims that she wants the best for her people, the reality is that she only seeks her own gain.
The kingdom is in a constant "state of emergency", all prepared for the imminent war that is always haunting the mind of their queen. Everyone must be ready to fight and those who cannot be soldiers must work and dedicate themselves to serving the cause.
"The ruler provides, but also controls"
Everyone have what is necessary to live, except the decision of how to do so.
If you did not manage to enter the guard, you will be assigned the job that best suits you, regardless of whether you want to do it or not.
This worked in the beginning: once the king "abandoned" his duty and the queen promised to do her best to free them, everyone agreed to make sacrifices. But when hope was high, the humans stopped coming, leaving them in need of only one more soul so that the reward for their effort could finally arrive.
Then the wait began, which after years and years of nothing, eroded everyone's morale, especially because they were forced to be constantly vigilant for a war that no one believes is going to come anymore.
🔺What happened to Asriel?
Asriel, the Exiled Prince
A total jerk. The queen gave him to one of the royal guards when he was born, because she wanted him as far from the capital as possible.
He was raised by the bunnies of Snowdin. Everyone in town knows he is the prince and he takes advantage of that, doing what he wants.
Even so, he's forbidden to leave the town and recent his mother for abandoning him.
While there isn't much he can do in such a small and humble place, that doesn't stop his bad behavior, giving eternal trouble to the Royal Guard.
Totally have a crush for Shaky, but he is a big BIG bully, so he still acts like a jerk with them.
Asgore has no idea that Asriel is his son, although he does know that there is a kid in Snowdin who is known as the prince.
Toriel kicked him out of the capital probably in the early stages of her pregnancy, so neither of them knew he was coming, and since he doesn't want to know about the kid (It's painful to even consider where it came from) his madness doesn't allow him to consider it too much either. His only source of information is the voice behind the door, as well as his only friend.
🔺The passage through the Ruins
As stated before, the conditions in which Asgore found the seventh human were precarious.
Shaky lived with Asgore for a considerable amount of time (several months, but less than a year). Never in their entire life the human had been able to live in such a comfortable way and with such a caring being as a guardian.
Asgore didn't want to let Shaky go (and the kid didn't really want do so either), but in a moment of clarity he understood that he couldn't condemn a child to his precarious lifestyle, so taking his friend's word for it, he let them go in the hope that they could get out of there.
Of course, the human didn't want to leave his side to walk into the unknown when Asgore told them, much less did they understand why he wanted them to return to the surface. But begging led to nothing and they ended up in the forest of Snowdin, where they ended up paralyzed by fear and cold, until Batchis led Papyrus to them.
