How Would You Like It?
Summary:
It's eight months since Pittfest, and Jack has been talked into being on call for day shift, by the sneakiest, and most unscrupulous argument Gloria could have made.
It's for Robby.
Naturally, that means Jack caves instantly.
So after his shift, Jack heads for the on-call room to catch a nap, only to find Robby there, killing time and pissed off over being forced to use some of his long overdue PTO. As Jack banters with his best friend, trying to maintain the illusion that friendship was all he felt, Robby says something that could change everything.
Before Jack can say a word, Robby bolts, and Jack is left reeling.

Excerpt:
"What're you doing here?" he asked, eyeing Robby from across the room, and saw a flicker of anger move over Robby's features.
"Wasting my fucking time," Robby complained, almost snapping at Jack. "I got here to the news that I'm now on mandatory two weeks of vacation because I've banked too much PTO and HR is putting the hammer down. Oh, and before I leave, Gloria needs to talk to me about metrics. So I'm waiting for Her Majesty to be free so I can get my new asshole torn, and then — apparently — I'm going home."
Jack chewed on that for a moment, sympathising for Robby's anger. If Gloria pulled that shit on him, he'd be livid. But then, it wasn't quite as likely to happen to Jack, as he was better at taking vacation than Robby was. Marginally, anyway.
Jack eyed his best friend again, wondering if he should say something else, and Robby caught his glance, his dark eyes stormy.
"Did you know about this?" he demanded suddenly, his voice almost a growl, and Jack was glad he hadn't known, because Robby was angry. Jack frowned. Did Robby really think he'd keep something like that from him? That was insulting!
"No, asshole," he replied firmly. "I only found out when Gloria accosted me at a quarter to with the intention of strong-arming me into being on call. I had no prior intel. You know I'm on your side, Robby, come on."
Robby's expression softened a little, his eyes warming, and he relented, giving Jack a somewhat sheepish nod.
"Yeah, I know, man. I just hate being blindsided like this. It's bullshit!"
