Katie Quackenbush, 32 mother of four, was sentenced Thursday to 11 months and 29 days probation for a reckless sentence in the murder of Gerald Melton, according to The Tennessean. Quackenbush, who was living in Nashville at the time of the incident but has since moved to Texas, can serve his sentence in his new place of residence. On August 26, 2017, Melton, then 54, was sleeping on a sidewalk in Music Row when he was awakened by loud music and the exhaust fumes from Quackenbush's Porsche SUV, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. . Melton and Quackenbush had a heated argument, during which the woman allegedly asked the man if he "wanted to die tonight". Melton testified in court that he drove away when Quackenbush got out of his car and fired two shots, hitting him in the abdomen. Quackenbush then got back into her Porsche and drove a passenger to a Taco Bell before heading home. Neither she nor her partner initially reported the shooting to the police. Melton survived the shooting but required three surgeries, prosecutors said. Quackenbush was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. At his trial in April, a jury found Quackenbush guilty of a minor charge of reckless danger - a misdemeanor - after testifying that he fired a gun in self-defense to scare Melton away. Quackenbush's father, a Texas attorney, previously claimed that Melton threatened to kill his daughter if she didn't turn down the radio volume. "My daughter said to him, 'I have a gun. Take this (curse) off me,'” Jesse Quackenbush told Fox 17. “He took a turn as a warning with no intention of hitting or killing him. chase and he kept coming and she fired another shot. Summary of Incident:
On July 26, 2019 at approximately 2146 hours Springfield Police were called regarding gun shots on Valley St. Officers responded to a residence and confirmed that gun shots had been fired by a subject alleged to be Sean Laskevich.
Citizens assisted the PD with calling in additional reported locations of this subject walking on Valley St carrying a gun. Springfield Police with the assistance of the Vermont State Police attempted to locate Laskevich at this time. Information was obtained he returned to the area of his residence.
Police subsequently encountered Laskevich on Valley St over an embankment armed with a loaded handgun during which time a standoff of ensued.
Additional Police personnel from SPD, VSP, Chester PD, Windsor County Sheriff Department and VT Fish and Wildlife responded. Springfield Fire and Ambulance were activated as well.
Crisis negotiations began immediately and after approximately a couple hours negotiations resulted in Laskevich disarming himself and cooperating with Police. Laskevich was then transported to Springfield Hospital for alleged continued services and cited for the alleged charges of Reckless Endangerment, Disorderly Conduct and Discharge of Firearms Restricted.
