Defendant: Sean Laskevich
Summary of Incident:
On July 26, 2019 at approximately 2146 hours Springfield Police were called regarding gun shots on Valley St. Officers responded to a residence and confirmed that gun shots had been fired by a subject alleged to be Sean Laskevich.
Citizens assisted the PD with calling in additional reported locations of this subject walking on Valley St carrying a gun. Springfield Police with the assistance of the Vermont State Police attempted to locate Laskevich at this time. Information was obtained he returned to the area of his residence.
Police subsequently encountered Laskevich on Valley St over an embankment armed with a loaded handgun during which time a standoff of ensued.
Additional Police personnel from SPD, VSP, Chester PD, Windsor County Sheriff Department and VT Fish and Wildlife responded. Springfield Fire and Ambulance were activated as well.
Crisis negotiations began immediately and after approximately a couple hours negotiations resulted in Laskevich disarming himself and cooperating with Police. Laskevich was then transported to Springfield Hospital for alleged continued services and cited for the alleged charges of Reckless Endangerment, Disorderly Conduct and Discharge of Firearms Restricted.
A message to the PD from Jenny White: This weekend, I was supposed to be taking a trip with my daughter out to see my sister in Ohio. Unfortunately, life had other plans for me. In a way I’m thankful. Thankful for one last visit, one last laugh, one last memory, one last time to be there for my dear friend John Moisis, who passed yesterday. I went over to his home in the morning, as promised. We were going to plant his trees, and he never got the chance. As we waited for first responders to do what they could, I knew in my heart that this would be it. In that moment, when all I wanted to do was breakdown, the officers that responded to the 911 call, were kind enough to come back for just a moment and help us finish the project we’d started. There, in the awful heat, fully dressed in uniform these men did such a beautiful thing. For your kindness I’d like to thank Dan Deslauriers, and Tony Moriglioni of the Springfield police department and Jack Potter, as well as the other very kind gentleman that accompanied him from the Springfield fire department. I’m so grateful for everyone that took part in these moments with us, and please know that John would be so thankful for each of you. You guys truly are one of a kind, and your compassion and generosity will never be forgotten. To my dear John Moisis, much love to you, and I hope your soul rests easy as you my friend will be forever missed.
