Recap Part 2
Wow I really meant to post this later in the day yesterday, but sometimes I just these moment where i feel really sleep. Anyways, here is the sequel.
When I came to I was laying on a hospital bed. Hooked up to the usual machines. A nurse told me that I was comatose for six days. The doctors told me that I had passed out in a hall way, just a few rooms from Alec's room. They asked the usual questions. Do you remember your name? How old are you? What day is it? Who are your parents? What was the last thing you remember?
I answered all the questions then proceeded to explain to them that the last thing I remembered was, leaving Alec's doctor's office. It was shortly after I had answered all their questions that I saw my mom at the door. She had her arms crossed as she leaned on the doorway. Her eyes were scanning the room looking all over the place, but I thought it felt strange our eyes never met. The doctor then proceeded to tell me about my heart condition. This was the first time they had actually talked about it to me directly, instead of behind my back.
My expression didn't change as they spoke to me. I had already known about my condition. Back in April I had overheard my father and my doctor discussing my heart condition and that it was likely I would need a transplant. They thought I was still asleep while they discussed it just outside of my room. When they came in they had asked me to sign some papers. My father told me they were for the off chance I had any illnesses that he would need to have say over. This way he had control on how I would get treated for them. I signed knowing full well he was going to do all he could to keep me alive. My father may not communicate all that well, but I know he loves me.
They kept me in the hospital for three more days under observation. For the Friday, they had put me in a room near Alec so I could visit him still. It was likely the least eventful Friday I've ever had. The Nurses just had up watching TV the whole time. I would often just fall asleep due to fatigue. Alec was 'nice' enough to nudge me awake so as to not miss what was happening on the shows.
I spent most of my time during those three days just sleeping. Apparently, one of the side affects was an overwhelming feeling of sleepiness. I can hardly remember those three extra days I spent at the hospital. The best way I could describe the experience was that it felt like time was on fast forward, because to me it went from Friday to Monday in a flash. It's like I had blinked and time had advanced well into the future. Due to that feeling I had become a little obsessed with time travel. When I got home Mom told me that I had to focus on my studies as I had to make up for the lost time. Oh, how a Tartarus would have been nice.
Obviously I visited Alec as usual last Friday, but this time I went there with books to study and help me get ready for my finals. Alec might not have understood the books I read to him that day, but I might have learned how to make him fall asleep. Of course this time I was the one doing the nudging to keep him awake as I read Science, History and English textbooks to him.
So, all that kind of catches us up to today. Looking back at all that I have written regarding the time that I had lost. There really wasn't all that much said. My life isn't some epic adventure or some huge melodrama, even if at times I tend to make it feel that way. Yeah, there is an expiration time stamp on me but who doesn't have one of those.
Dear Future Me,
When you read these posts I hope you don't feel like your life was just a series of side steps to avoid death. Instead I hope you feel like you were a warrior fighting death it's self in heated combat and for now you are winning.
