So I recently watched Season 6 Episode 22 (Valiant) of Deep Space Nine for the first time. The whole time I thought that it was incredulous that these cadets thought that what they were doing was OK. Like they could take the Jem'Hadar and win.
Then it hit me... Star Trek 2009 was basically this episode, and I never once doubted the Enterprise staff. Like think about:
The main cast are mostly if not all cadets
All senior commissioned officers (with exeption of Spock) are taken out of action
Their enemy has a ship that is bigger and has superior fire power
A cadet takes command of the ship as acting Captain
They transport an engineer on to the ship; he becomes integral to the plot
Instead of regrouping with starfleet they go after enemy
They have a 17 year old on board
I think this is a great example of how writers can easily make you feel whatever they want about a situation...

a tiny robot who was supposed to be built as an assembly robot, but ended up with some defects: she’s much smaller, has a face, and personality. she finally got tired of being forced into her role and broke out! (her design is based on our UFO8 cranes, both because I like their design and because I also need to remind myself I’m allowed to be a genuine person at work)
