When we saw Colette we interpreted Missy as being a trans man. The two trans actors who worked on the film - including Jake Graf, who provided some advice to Denise Gough on her interpretation of the character - both interpret Missy as being a trans man, and so that also informed our discussion as we considered their casting.

Within the confines of the film, however, reading Missy as a non-binary lesbian is also valid, especially as he lived in a time before the lines between the two identities existed as they are drawn now.

I’d also like to mention - because I don’t think I was clear in my post yesterday - that when I referred to Missy as a trans man, I was referring only to the character in the film, and not the historical individual. We haven’t looked into the real Missy on our podcast yet, so I can’t comment on them from that perspective, but it would definitely be interesting to read Missy’s own words and discuss them more in the future.

thank you! i only realised this once a friend pointed it out but it’s interesting how i kinda unknowingly did that huh... the whole point of the 30dayscomics challenge was i think because november is such a transitional period and as another friend of mine said, we all become quite introspective and think about the year that passed in this period. which is probably why so many of these comics of mine are somehow about remembering things? it might also have something to do with me as a person but idk about that.

im gonna work on yesterday+today’s comic now and it’s probably gonna revolve around that! it’s gonna be the final of this series until i do it next year again, but i hope i can produce more comics after this experience. i realise that in just a month i became more comfortable with using the tablet, and just putting out work without thinking much about it, just going with a simple idea and building around it in an hour or two.
