The Wounded Deer, by Frida Kahlo 🇲🇽(1907-1954)
Genre: Surrealism/Naïve
Completed in 1946 after a major spinal surgery that had failed, the painting depicts Frida as a deer, speared in the neck, chest and body with several arrows. The painting can be alluded to Frida's physical pain, with how the arrows are speared across several vital parts of the body, human or animal. Like most Frida Kahlo pieces, the art is another symbolic message to Frida's mental turmoil and how she copes with it.
