i've just been rejected from cambridge for english and i'm thinking about reapplying to oxford. any tips? is smashing my a levels going to be a huge advantage? do you know many successful gap year english reapplicants? obviously I've not decided quite yet, but I don't think I'd ever forgive myself if i didn't try again and I do genuinely kind of think it tutorials and the intensity would be right for me. thank you so much, this was a massive wall of text!!
It’s always worth another try if you really think the place is right for you so I’m glad you’ve made that decision, or are at least considering it:)
Doing well in your A levels is obviously required; I wouldn’t describe it as ‘a huge advantage’ though, as everyone else applying will also have done very well/be predicted to do very well (unless there are extenuating circumstances I guess). I’d say my main tip would be to do a lot of reading around your subject and see if you can find areas you’re passionate about - that’s the main thing they’re looking to find I’d say, alongside intelligence.
As for successful gap year English re-applicants, there’s a guy reading English at my college who is that very thing so it’s definitely possible!
Good luck!
