it did not start with the music, nor did it start with the fashion and at the heart of Goth is using dark and mysterious aspects of history as inspiration for the creation of new gothic works and gothic expression, as this is what each stage of Goth has, fundamentally

there is much to appreciate from historical gothic creations, it's just not exclusive to the music and fashion

it is good to get a deep understanding of goth history and delve into gothic works so that you don't create a shallow interpretation, but there is no initiation process for being goth, the basics is just having an appreciation for things that are dark, that is what makes one goth
