i feel like the "goths vs. preps" thing was always a ploy to pit girls, women, and femmes against each other tbh. when we all had the same insecurities, and faced the same pressures: imposter syndrome, having shitty "friends" you didn't even like but couldn't get away from because they were part of the clique, pressure to like the "right" music, to be pretty enough, to have the "right body," to not be a poser, to go to the right events.
being alt/goth makes you a target, but so does being any person who experiences misogyny. femininity is gatekept.
it wasn't "goths vs preps" it was "goths vs bullies" -- there were douchy guys and catty girls that were mostly normies, yes, but turning it into a female thing is misogynistic and unrealistic.
the things normie guys did to goth girls aren't talked about because no one wants to acknowledge that particular brand of male violence and how men are threatened by women with agency over how they dress.

I’m what my friend calls a “Baby Bat.” I’m new to goth culture and would love some fashion and makeup tips wherever possible... have been branching out a lot with my makeup and fashion, and only just recently started dressing in a 'gothic fashion'- Thrifting in my area has been a total disaster. Are there any relatively affordable online resources/shops I can look into as far as makeup and clothing?? All I'm working with right now are some cut up fishnets, random chains I got at thrift store, and a set of black tank tops I inherited from my mom. Any advice for dress and hair would be very nice!!!!
