Last minute entry for #readysetproto , the Smile camera. This foamcore model is based directly off the last bristol one i did with some minor adjustments. The full design is meant to fit into a more sustainable system, as pictured; the main body of the camera is to be molded in recycled plastic, while the brown shutter area is a replaceable cardboard attachment. The user will buy the assembled camera at the store and write their name, address and email on the cardboard portion. After taking the allotted number of photos, the camera is simply dropped in a mailbox; the return address of the manufacturer is molded into the plastic. After the manufacturer recovers the users photos, digital copies are automatically sent to the given email and the user is given the option to purchase prints to be sent to the given address. The manufacturer then recycles or composts the cardboard shutter and reuses the plastic component, creating a mostly closed material cycle and a far more sustainable “disposable” camera.
