COVID has turned me into a #readingmachine but I find myself wanting to only read books that offer the escape over anything else. With everything going on in the world though, I have tried to make sure I also read books that educate as well expand my mind. I have heard so much about #jamesbaldwin over the years and so I chose this one as my introduction to his writing. His words are well thought out and still very relevant today as they were when he wrote them. This book is short, but is packed with emotion and wisdom. It is one thing to be able to read. It is a whole different ball game to be able to read in front of a large group of people. During my senior year of high school I was chosen to lead a retreat called Kairos. It is a religious retreat that my high school is known for. Being a leader I had to give a talk. My talk was about fifteen pages single spaced all written by yours truly. It wasn't that hard to write and it wasn't hard to read, but because the content was so personal, it can be pretty difficult to read and present it to a group of your peers and teachers. It took about an hour and a half to read through and people seemed to get that it was tough, but I got through it and it ended up being really good. and nothing is better than having other people tell you how good you are at reading stuff.
