One of my college writing professors once said that it’s perfectly normal to immediately get defensive when someone disagrees with or critiques your writing. That’s normal, that’s human.

It’s how you respond to it after you’ve had a chance to cool down that matters.

I feel like a lot of creators are really prone to doubling down on or completely erasing their mistakes, and like… I understand why you feel the need to do that, but mistakes are just a sign that you’re growing, or that you hadn’t thought about something fully, or even that you didn’t have the full context to have a better informed opinion on something.

Just because someone says “hey I think you’re wrong about this” doesn’t mean they’re mean spirited or whatever, and if someone approaches you in bad faith with a shitty attitude, you don’t have to pay them as much mind… just don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.

Dragon Age dealt with a lot of really heavy questions and themes. That’s why the discussion was the way it was. It’s not necessarily bad thing or a series ruiner, *as evidenced by the people who were huge fans who still pointed out the racism and misogyny and such that was present in the games*. We weren’t rescinding our fandom because the authors didn’t have a perfect take 100% of the time.
