Steins;Gate 0 will come out in the next year hopefully . In that , we will enjoy ourselves watching a “Broken Okabe” , An Okabe who gave up on saving his soul-mate , his assistant  Makise Kurisu . We have already seen a version of Okabe , whom I would like to call the “Cracked okabe” , trying to save Makise Kurisu once , and failing in the original Steins;gate. He also encounters a fate where he, himself kills Makise Kurisu . He already knew the dark truth of time manipulating , so the crack just got bigger in each attempt  . Previously He was forced to watch his beloved childhood Friend Mayurii  die , and as he tried to save her , he had to watch that again , and again and countless again until he started sacrificing the wishes of his close friends , erasing ones memory of finally meeting her father , reversing ones deep wish which was finally came true , snatching ones father and sacrificing him and the biggest one moving to an worldline without Makise , all to save that one friend .

This “Cracked Okabe” became “Broken Okabe” after failing to save Makise . He accepted reality , and finally gave up .

Now we know the story of another Okabe from the original SG , who received a video massage from “Broken Okabe” before he , himself started becoming him , guiding the way to reach Steins;gate .

Now Steins;gate 0 will show us the story of that “Broken Okabe” who devotes his life to find that way , to reach Steins;gate .

That will conclude us with story of two versions of Okabe . But there were more , countless Okabe , each having a slightly different fate than others .

As for an example , there was one version of Okabe who was sent to the past by force by the hands of the organization . He was sent 70 million before the event of steins;gate . And as strange as it may sound , that version of Mayurii came saving him by herself . But they were faced death in that harsher lifeless , timeless earth . But they didn’t show any remorse , as there were sure there are infinity more ver of them who will pick from the point they left in life . I would like to call this Okabe “ The Okabe “

Yes , I was talking about that strange dream Okabe had in steins;gate , in where he was laying in a mars like planet , thinking about the very existence and definition of time and himself, when Mayurii appears , telling him who he was , how they reached there , what will happen to them . It was already brief in the VN , it was briefer in the anime . But they gave us a pretty solid view .

Also , that Mayurii called them the original, while I think the definition of original is a little blurry there , as every ver of them is hypothetically connected as one .

But how come Okabe was able to experience it in a dream ? That is where the question arise , what is actually “Reading Steiner”  ?

Sure , we know that Reading Steiner is the ability by which one retains his memories from other worldline . Okabe experiences it directly . He can retain his memories from worldlines he had experienced to other worldlines . He named this ability Reading Steiner .

But this sure isn’t so simple when it comes to other people . We have seen countless examples in where others can remember what happened to themselves in other worldline .  Though it’s slightly different from Okabe . They don’t retain those memories , but it’s more like it stays with them , and events force them to remember those or by the medium of dreams. But it is also possible , they gain those memories from their “Original Being” . A version of themselves , who is connected with every possible one of them .So , will it be qualified as Reading Steiner ? Yes , no , maybe .

My hypothesis is the being called Okabe Rintaro has a more direct connection to his One being , the original . Others don’t  have this as directly as Okabe , but they still have that connection .

So , I would say , Okabe have a more “Direct version of Reading Steiner” , while others have an “indirect version of Reading Steiner” . Also this strength of connection differs from person to person, as we have seen , Feris have a little more direct reading steiner than someone like Daru , but not as direct as Okabe .

Okay , now let’s get back to the original topic , the topic about “ The Original Okabe” ( or at least a 3rd ver of Okabe ) who was shown for a very brief time in Okabes lucid dream , at least according to my theory . Now Okabe can retain memories from the Worldlines he had experienced . But what about the worldline he hadn’t experienced yet . there are infinite more of them . Well , I say those memories stays with him . He can experience them with more indirect ver of Reading Steiner like others .

So how will he experience them ? we know a medium in which other character had experienced those naturally while not being forced by the situation itself . it was by dream . And Okabe experienced those memories of So-Called “Original Okabe” by a very vivid lucid dream .

So , by this I have stated why I think another version of Okabe was actually shown in Steins;Gate other than the “Cracked Okabe” and “Broken Okabe” , which could actually be a good story for another VN , IDK , maybe Steins;gate origin .
