Mum was raised Conservative, but we went and I grew up in a Reform synagogue that gradually got more Reform as I got older. Left me with a little bit of a float-y identity. Dad was a WASP who married my mother under the condition they raise their children Jewish. He converted when I was... 14? 15? Something like that.
The radical queer feminist in me who likes to go to BDSM dungeons and be something of a hedonist is constantly at odds with my Jewishness, and I've yet to find a balance. But chanting Torah is something I take seriously. My grandmother can't read Hebrew, she never became a Bat Mitzvah. I try not to take it for granted, so I've chanted ever since I became a Bat Mitzvah at the High Holy Days. This year my depression got so bad and I was in such a new environment of college that I backed out of going to Hillel.

Honestly I've never been to a conservative synagogue but I'm enjoying it so far more than my home one. Which as a kid I hated/loved but as I grew old enough to appreciate it, changed.
I don't know why it feels weird to read Torah again. Thought I might just never go back to it in college and if anything I've been more observant.

I do too. I got sorta harangued into it when I went to synagogue with this boy who... well I lied through my teeth and told him I couldn't go out with him anymore because I had a girlfriend, which was wrong of me, but honestly I just needed him to stop.
But we went to a chaverah service and it was nice and mostly people over 60 but it was a good thing. And some people from my home city. I enjoyed it a lot so I said I'd read.
They also do a teenager orthodox egalitarian service, which seems super interesting.
