Let me tell you something. This book is really jamming up the Shirley Jackson vibes. I didnāt realize that Iād be as creeped out by it as I feel. Itās kind of exciting.
Itās the dad being lost in his car in the middle of nowhere when this random Spanish woman walking alone on a side road runs up crying and trying to talk to him although she speaks no English that did it for me. Like what is about to happen?
Picture it: youāre lost in the middle of nowhere, not another car in sight, your uppity ass has got no reception and youāre almost in panic mode. Then some woman who you canāt understand comes up to your window crying and speed talking. Where did she come from? Personally, I cannot deal. If I leave her out here, what happens? If I take her with me, what happens? Fuck, Iām lost!
This scene of him in Chapter 20 just like frantically thinking and driving around, no reception and then this one woman in the middle of the road. It really creeped up on me and tripped me out for real, for real. Iām freaked tf out!
Havenāt read anything like this in a minute, and itās fun, albeit a little disturbing.
