Sensational Feelings part 2
Shout out to @canumoveurseatup-no and @chaneajoyyy for letting me run these ideas by them!
TRIGGER WARNINGS AND THEMES- Parental neglect, age gap relationship (Reader is 21 and Tony is 41 at the start, then 33 and 53 towards the end), allusions to one night stands, alcohol, troubled marriages.
That name is infamous with the words: parties, extravagance, rich, philanthropist, genius, handsome, inventor…
You knew all of that. Of course you did. Tony Stark’s name, company and image are plastered all over the news at any given moment. From newsstands to tabloids to gossip articles to websites to your social media feed… he is everywhere you look.
You know all of this as you stand here tonight, drink in your hand as you watch people mingle, chat, and flirt with each other.
Honestly, you’re already wishing you had not come. Had it not been for your dad being employed by Tony Stark, and wanting to give off the image of having the ‘’perfect’’ family, you wouldn’t even have bothered to show up with him and your mother.
But your best friend, whose mother also works with Tony, convinced you it’d be fun. And you’d agree with that since she’d be there.
However, the way that she’s currently chatting up some guy in the corner makes you feel otherwise and you don’t bother to act like it doesn’t.
It’d be so easy to leave. Just call a cab and head on back to your dormitory. It’s about a 30, maybe 40, minute drive from here. That’d eat up your money for the week, but it’d be worth it to not have to stand here anymore and act like you want to be here.
Yet, here you are. Still here. Dressed to the nines and sipping your drink and eating an Hors-d'œuvre, wondering how long you’ll have to put on airs.
‘’What’s a pretty thing like you doing all alone in this corner.’’
You have to bite your cheek to prohibiting the spiteful comment from bubbling up and spilling out of your ruby red painted lips.
You turn to find yourself face-to-face with none other than Tony Stark himself, his ever present smirk resting beautifully on his face.
‘’Eating brie and avoiding conversation,’’ you admit, taking another sip of your drink.
‘’Excellent strategy to avoid others. Looks like you’re running a little low there, though,’’ he snaps his finger towards the bar, ‘’Rhodey, another drink for the gorgeous young lady. And get me my usual, would ya?’’
You hear the other man, Rhodey, mumble something about how ‘Tony’s really testing my patience and generosity’ but Tony ignores him with a wave of the hand.
‘’I’m sorry, I didn’t quite catch your name,’’ Tony explains, flashing you a smile.
‘’That’s because I didn’t toss it,’’ you raise an eyebrow at him, ‘’Nice try, though.’’
If this causes his confidence to falter, he doesn't’ show it. Instead, he takes the drinks from Rhodey, thanks him, and hands you yours.
‘’Well, here’s to avoiding small talk in favor of attractive people,’’ he lifts his glass up for a toast, and you laugh quietly, shaking your head before toasting him.
‘’So what brings you over here, Mr. Stark? Have you come to listen to me complain about my classes this semester?’’
‘’I mean, I could… but why don’t we go somewhere more private,’’ he suggests, raising an eyebrow.
You look to where your parents are chatting away with some of your dad’s coworkers, unaware to the fact that their daughter is currently being hit up by a genius, millionaire, playboy, and philanthropist all rolled into one very attractive man.
A man that happens to be about twenty or so years, give or take, older than you.
But this is just an innocent conversation, so it's fine.
You follow Tony to the balcony, away form the buzz of the party and the dim lights that make everyone look aglow under them.
‘’So what’s your story,’’ he questions, taking his suit jacket off and laying it on the bench for you to sit on.
‘’Thank you. I mean, I don’t really have much of a story. ‘’
‘’Everyone's got a story, beautiful,’’ Tony explains, ‘’I do. Tell me yours and I’ll tell you mine.’’
He seems generally interested. And you don’t know if it’s the buzz from the party or the confidence he’s radiating off of himself, but you begin to talk.
‘’I don’t think I am that exciting of a person, Mr. Stark.’’
‘’Alright,’’you smile, taking another sip of your drink, ‘’Tony it is.’’
Flirting led to kissing, and kissing led you back up to his suite. You awoke the next morning with Tony Stark’s arm around your waist.
yOu had about a dozen missed calls from your parents, but you simply ignored them in favor of getting dressed and getting back to your dorm.
Slowly, you roll from under his arms, reaching to grab your dress and take off his clothes that you are wearing.
‘’Hmmm,’’ you turn to look to Tony, chuckling a bit at his science pun pajama shirt, ‘’Yeah. I’ve got to get back to my dorm room.’’
‘’Do you? Or could you stay,’’ he questions, sincerity in his eyes.
‘’Should I? I mean, last night was fun. I like making out,’’ you shrug, ‘’But isn’t this the part where you send me on my way and tell me how last night was a one-time thing and give me some cab fare?’’
‘’Normally, yes. But I’m not one to be predictable. So, would you like to stay for breakfast?’’
You’re not sure what game he’s playing here, but you agree. So Tony calls for a breakfast to be delivered up to you- a ham omelets for him. A veggie omelet for you. Hash Browns. Toast. Orange juice. Coffee. The works.’’
He eats and he talks, and you talk, and it’s surprisingly… nice.
‘’You never did tell me your story last night, sweet heart,’’ he tells you, blowing on his food a bit.
‘’Well, to be fair, Mr. Stark… I was too busy playing tonsil hockey with you.’’
‘’Language,’’ he laughs lightly, ‘’And call me Tony. So… how did you end up at my party last night? It seams like you would’ve wanted to be anywhere else.’’
‘’Alright. Tony. I’m here because my dad dragged me along. I go to NYU, and I am going for business. And then you came over, and that’s probably the most exciting thing that has happened in my whole entire life,’’ you roll your eyes as you speak these words, knowing that they are true.
‘’Parent issues. I can definitely relate,’’ Tony mumbles, taking as sip of his water , ‘’Care to enlighten me which of my employees we’ll be bad-mouthing?’’
‘’Frank. Frank Lovings,’’ you explain, rolling your eyes at the mention of your dad.
‘’He’s pretentious. No offense. But he is, and that’s coming from me,’’ Tony stresses.
‘’Well, that he is. The truth may be offensive, but that doesn't mean it’s not true’’ you reassure him.
From that point, you open up to Tony about the struggles you feel and he vents about his own pressures.
‘’It’s like… they treat me like some little accessory. Like ‘Oh, here’s our daughter. She’s perfect. She makes mistakes. You don’t know we have her though because we only bring her up when it's time to brag’.’’
‘’And you have issues with them treating you like you’re perfect,’’ Tony questions, taking a bite of his food.
‘’No, not really. Yes… maybe? I don’t know. I just wish I didn’t always have to act like someone I’m not,’’ you vent your frustrations to the older man.
‘’I know how that goes,’’ he shakes his head as if that could loosen old memories form his own mind and flin them off of the balcony.
‘’I bet you do. It must be hard, being all of these things that you are.’’
‘’Oh, the billionaire, philanthropist, genius, playboy part… that’s easy. Taking on these roles is easy. It’s maintaining them all while being human that’s the challenge.’’
For the first time all night, you look at this man and you don’t see THE Tony Stark. You don’t see shiny cars, inventions, or anything of the like. No, you see… Tony.
A man who is hurting as much as you are in so many ways.
Someone who is just as human as you are.
Maybe that’s why you agree to stay for lunch.
And why you’re still there for lunch the next day.
‘’This place is pretty expensive, isn’t it,’’ you question, staring at the menu, trying to ignore the stars from all around you.
‘’It’s worth it,’’ Tony responds, not even bothering to look up from his menu.
‘’Is it,’’ you look to where one particular pastry costs about ten dollars.
‘’It is. Because you are,’’ he says smoothly, causing you to roll your eyes.
‘’Keep doing that, and you’re eyes are gonna get stuck. And ‘’Smooth’’ is my middle name.’’
‘’Oh is it now?,’’you lean forward, chin resting in the palm of your hand, ‘’I thought that ‘Pretentious’ was your middle name.’’
He looks at you before blinking once, twice, again… and cracking a smile.
‘’You’re funny. I could get used to having you around’’
That, he does. Two months later, you’re dating. You’ve been spotted by paparazzi, and a photo of you smiling at Tony is splashed across every news outlet possible.
Everyone has something say. Rhodey. Your parents. Other employees. The news anchor. Your roommate.
‘’He’s too old for you.’’
‘’She’s too young for you.’’
‘’She’s just using you.’’
That was eleven years ago. You’ve hears that and every variation of those statements and more, but they never uttered you. You dropped contact with your parents, and anyone else who couldn't see you two make eachother so very happy.
Now you're standing in his office, waiting for him arrive back with the cups of coffee that the two of you will be drinking.
Your ring glimmers and glints in the sunshine that i flowing through Tony’s window.
‘’I got you that extra cream and sugar that you love so much,’’ Tony pipes up, returning with two cups of coffee.
‘’Thank you, my love,’’ you coo, kissing him before taking a sip of your coffee.’’
‘’Don’t mention it, dear,’’ he presses a kiss you or forehead, ‘’I’ll be in meetings all day. Any chance you could show the rookie around the place?’’
‘’One, he is your intern. Two, call him Peter Parker like everyone else,’’ you chastise him, ‘’Don’t you want Pepper to do that?’’
‘’Pep’s coming to the meetings with me,’’ he explains, ‘’To keep me running more efficiently and all that jazz. You and I both know that if you come I'll Get distracted by your beauty.’’
‘’Charming,’you smirk before frowning, ‘’Will you be able to make it to dinner?’’
‘’Should be, yeah. It’s at 8, right?,’’ Tony says, looking to his phone, ‘’I’ve gotta get going. Pepper’s here.’’
‘’It’s at seven, Tony. You’d better be there.’’
‘’Got it, yeah. The Italian food place at eight.’’
‘’The steakhouse at seven, Tony. Be there!’’
‘’I got it. It’s all locked up in here like a still trap. See you then, babe. And I’ll even tell Pepper just to make sure I’m there.’’
He exits then, taking the elevator down to meet Pepper in the lobby.
Tony loves you and you love him. Even though he’s a bit hard to live with sometimes, and sometimes he forgets anniversaries and birthdays (including his own) he loves you
You’ve been through a lot. And you plan on going through more together, facing whatever comes your way. Together.
Things don’t always go according to plan.
Lately, it seems like something has shifted. And you're not sure what it is. But you’re determined to get to the bottom of it. So you plaster on a smile and head out to meet Peter, who is having an animated discussion with Bruce.
‘’Come on, Peter. I’m Mrs. Stark, and I’ll be showing you around.’’
The fifteen-year-old grins and waves at Bruce before following you, listening excitedly as you talk about the tower and all of the things you’ve come to learn yourself.
Get to the bottom of this.
