ALSO Data Sora physically experiencing the 2nd dimension???
LOVE that tiny detail
Idk I love when my game melds its mechanics and narrative and world like no we're not just in a side-scroller but the character is experiencing the world the same. I flattened your character. He's flat now. He feels it. He's in the side-scroller and that's not how his world is supposed to work. Fix it.
In the Datascape.
Data Riku and his mini assistant Sora.
Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded
Sora and Riku are both saving each other depending on the game...
In Kh1 it is Riku because obviously he gets tricked and manipulated by not only maleficent but then Ansem uses his body so Sora ends up saving him. He fights Riku trying to help him see what he is doing is wrong and to free Riku from out of Ansem control.
In CoM it is Sora because of what happens to his memory. It gets tangled up and unfortunately because of this he goes to a long sleep where Riku watches over him. However, you could also say Sora is trying to save Repliku and find him but it's mainly Sora for this game. He technically tries to find Riku and save Naminé but it's him who ultimately falls because of his actions to save them.
In KH2 it is mainly Riku since he faces hurdles such as willingly giving into the darkness and making his appearance be like Ansem's. However during the Xemnas fight he gets injured and has to rely on Sora to help. It's hard for him to walk and he most likely also was injured when he faced Roxas. Against Xemnas, Riku also sacrifices himself when Sora is in danger so he ends up getting hit instead so it could also be Sora.
In 348/2 Days it's Sora because he is the one who is sleeping and Riku does everything for him. Because of the events of chain of memories, his memory needs repaired and Riku ends up looking after him. He is willing to do anything to help Sora and saves him by fighting Roxas.
In Re:Coded it's data Riku when he gets taken by Pete & maleficent. Then data Sora rushes in to save him despite not having a keyblade. Data Riku doesn't want to hurt Sora despite being controlled and asks him to end him for his sake. However, Sora dives into his heart (the journal's deepest data) so he can save Riku despite it also weakening his own power.
During DDD it is Sora since the organization had tried to manipulate and use Sora as their thirteenth vessel. It causes Riku to worry and fight a nightmare heartless for his sake while also diving back into his heart to fight Ventus and soon save him. In Sora's last moments before fading into unconsciousness he involuntary mutters Riku's name. He knows he can save him. Riku and eventually with the help of Axel is able to save Sora.
During KH3 it is Riku who ends up being saved or needing help. While in the dark world, Riku is fighting more dangerous heartless and trying to find Aqua. He encounters anti Aqua but he is unable to bring her back so at his wits' end, he calls Sora's name and he comes to help save him. This is similar to how in DDD Sora calls his name at his end.
At the end of 3 Sora has disappeared from abusing his ability and bringing back all his friends when he rewrote fate. We see from MelMem Riku is going to save Sora so in 4 that will probably be the case but I could also see if they don't leave Quadratum by the end of the game, we could get Riku potentially being in danger and Sora saving him then or even the next game.
So whenever someone calls one of them useless for not being able to do much, I want to say it's in character for them to keep helping the other. I remember people wondering and complaining because Riku couldn't fight Anti Aqua and had to be saved by Sora, but really he is repaying the favor. However, it is also such a nice moment between them and I can't help but wonder why it matters if he sometimes needs help when he has helped Sora some too in the past? They're not invincible after all.

Everyone besides data Sora and Data Riku forgets things the next day, so Selphie, Wakka, Tidus, Kairi, all lose their memories after each day and I can't wait for them to interact with the real version of some characters.
The reason they lose their memories is because the journal resets so things are how it is supposed to be, "in a perfect state" so nothing can crossover or change. The only reason Kairi really is there is because Data Riku made her since she is "his" —quotations because he doesn't see himself as Riku but he uses the name.—and Sora's friend. Data Riku could technically try to figure out how to make them all remember but that would mess with the journal itself again. However, Sora finds her and the rest of them boring because they never remember which is why he prefers to spend his time with Data Riku or talking to the real versions.
Data Riku I mentioned sees himself as someone separate from Riku. He uses Riku's appearance and at first he was less like a human within the game and after time he becomes more like Riku and more human-like. He uses Riku's name but he knows he's not THE RIKUâ„¢. He knows he looks like him and is similar and he is supposed to be him in a way that his role is to be "Riku" but he's not him.
Also he'll do anything for Sora since he ended up loving him because he wants to but not because Riku necessarily does. The real Riku and Sora obviously care for each other but they run in circles when it comes to their feelings.
Data Riku now ends up loving Data Sora and the two of them are much more simple in that matter. Data Riku chooses to love and care for him because he ends up cherishing Sora and he becomes very important to him as he actually gets to know this data Sora. It's much more simple because they are different.
Now Sora on the other hand sees himself as Sora and notes that they're similar. They, however, are different because Data Sora can handle hurt where Sora can't. Sora is more worried and has more fears whereas Data Sora doesn't really worry as much. He'll worry if Data Riku will be okay if he gets hurt but that's basically it. Sora will worry if Riku still likes him and if he will hurt him like he did in kh1 Hollow Bastion because he has trauma from being left alone.
Castle Oblivion things actually did happen. Now how would that work since the big thing is he doesn't have memories. Well when Data Sora is in Castle Oblivion he doesn't remember but once he gets to the last floor, he remembers everything again especially after talking to Naminé.
Data Sora is how everyone thinks Sora is along with my own little traits. Like I think Data Sora (and even Data Riku too) are more excited and hyper about various situations. He can be very blunt and says what he wants. For instance when he saw the other Riku, he thought he was pretty and asked his Riku if he could have hair like that. He often frequently talks about Data Riku and mentions how he is his boyfriend because he loves him so much.
This all is based off my fic series The Reconnected Data
