In my second playthrough of Red Dead Redemption 2 Iāve been trying to plan for the future and create the āperfectā save file in each chapter.
I want to be able to return to the game years from now just to free roam.Ā The goal is that Arthur will be as levelled up as possible, Iāll be able to dress him however I want, give him any absurd facial hair (without having to wait for it to grow) etc.Ā
This isnāt going to be a guide on how to do or where to find each thing but a list of things to do at each point of the game.Ā Feel free to send me asks about this stuff though and Iād be happy to help.
This post is a WIP and I will update it as I progress further into the game.
Quick note first:Ā Ā After completing a challenge you can buy reinforced equipment from the trapper which raises Arthur and Johnās health, stamina or dead-eye by one bar.Ā The earliest point that each entire challenge can be completed is listed below.
Iāve not listed every money making opportunity, but just the ones where there are gold bars.

Until you do Spines of America the fence at Emerald Ranch is not available, but you can still sell to the fence in Rhodes and Saint Denis.
You canāt get a grooming brush until Exit, Pursued by a Bruised Ego, but you can still clean your horse in deep water.Ā Ā
I try to do much of the list for this save while growing out Arthurās beard.

Mission: Money Lending (any one of Chick Matthews/Lilly Millet/Wrobel to unlock the camp ledger so that you can buy Leather Working tools and get the satchel upgrades)

(Note:Ā In theory you can get a fishing rod early and complete the Survivalist Challenge using this method, but I havenāt had luck)

After Mission: The Sheep and the Goats (to unlock sniper rifle)
Hat:Ā Newsboy cap (must get from an enemy in the Sheep and the Goats)
After this mission Horseshoe Overlook will be packed up.
Challenge: Sharpshooter can be completed (requires long-scoped rifle, in theory can be obtained earlyĀ by this method, but I havenāt had luck with this)
Chapter 3: First OptionĀ

Chapter 3: Second Option
After Mission: Horseflesh for Dinner (unlocks horse fence)
Challenge: Bandit can be completed
Chapter 4: Early Option
After Mission: The Joys of Civilisation
(having theĀ āAngelo Bronteā mission available means that you can complete it to replay Jackās party)
Ch 4 unlocks Algernon Wasp and I recommend that youāre doing Herbalism 9 while doing his exotic requests
(NOTE:Ā You must finish all camp upgrades and companion activities before starting Banking, the Old American Art as they will no longer be available)Ā
Chapter 5: Guarma
After Mission: Welcome to the New World
Find all Guarma animals for compendium
Hat: Sunhat (only found here)
Chapter 5: Lakay
After Mission: Fleeting Joy
Trinket/Talisman: Complete one cigarette card collection (for alligator talisman)
Trinket/Talisman: Get gold-jointed bracelet (for alligator talisman)
Trinket/Talisman:Ā Legendary AlligatorĀ
Chapter 6:Ā First Save
After Mission:Ā Thatās Murfree Country
Chapter 6: Second SaveĀ
After Mission: Archaeology for Beginners (make sure to get trinket)
(This is the last remaining trinket/talisman available to Arthur)
Find Carolina Parakeets for Compendium (not available in Epilogue as far as I know)
(Before finishing Chapter 6, you can visit Aberdeen Pig Farm and the money that is stolen from Arthur should still be there if you return as John in the epilogue)
Epilogue 1:Ā Early Option
(may be easier to do some of this in Epilogue II)
After Mission: The Wheel
Challenge: Herbalist can be completed (four herbs only available in Epilogue)
I thought Iād put together a little guide for where to find some of the more difficult animals.Ā Ā Iāll happily add to this list if requested.
Iām not as knowledgeable about New Austin, but Iām pretty confident finding all of the animals North and East of The Lower Montana River.
All of these are WIPs for now and eventually I will add images the ones already posted:
I prefer to aim for a headshot using a bow with improved arrows.
Itās easier to find in the morning or early afternoon.
Pearson requests one moose horn for camp upgrades (needs to be hunted from a male of any quality).
The trapper requires three (?) perfect pelts (3* moose only, but male or female).
The Legendary Moose can be found near Willardās Rest in the North East.
Best hunting locations below.
Colter
Follow the creek from Colter to the North East and youāll see it on a ridge.
This is the easiest and most consistent location for me.Ā It has always been 3* bull moose for me.
Grizzlies EastĀ
West of Donner Falls, a little tricky to find.Ā Ā You wonāt be able to get close to the moose spawn point (the player will fall as if itās steep, although itās not).Ā Ā Youāll need to lure it closer with bait.Ā Ā Iāve had male and female moose here and either 2 or 3* quality.
Willardās Rest
Standing by the water close to the railway bridge, it has always been a female for me and 2-3* quality.Ā Ā For me this isnāt very consistent spawn, but easier than some of the others.
Owanjila Lake
Iāve occasionally seen a bull moose swimming in Owanjila Lake, and once standing on the shore.Ā Ā It has always been a 2* moose and more often than not does not show up.
Cattail Pond
When desperate, Iāll put down bait at Cattail Pond and Iāve had good luck spawning in 3* cow moose.Ā Ā Iāve never seen one here without placing bait first.
OāCreaghās Run
Iāve occasionally seen bull moose swimming in the lake.
Other people have had good luck placing bait on Cairn Lake but this has never worked for me.
