As of 17:30 today, I will be done with Grad School. This is not entirely true, I still have to write a 4,000 word paper but even so, today is the last day I have to physically go into school, and be a student. It’s thrilling and terrifying all at once.
Unlike most of my peers, I was fortunate enough not to have to be in the education system for the entirety of my life. As far as I am aware, some people cannot remember a time that they were not in some form of institution (whether it be day care or Primary school). I only joined the normal school system when I was 14, and even then I entered into Community College. Not normal for a 14 year old. My point is saying that I have only been going to school full time for 5 years (part time 4 years, 9 total), and I am sick of school. I cannot imagine how people with normal education background have stood school for this long.
You get to a point where you need to be yourself. You must want people to stop telling (or if they do it well, suggesting to) you how to think. I want to be creative, by my self. I want to stop performing for teachers, and perform for me. No matter what they tell you in Drama School, you always want to perform for, or please, them. I don’t think you start acting for yourself until after you leave.
I am going to miss these people. I am going to miss Central. I am probably going to miss England (as I think the boy and I will move back to the states for a while). In all though, I will be glad to have a break. From school, from people, from pressure.
Today should be Day 25 of my Yoga with Adriene programme. I have had a few slip ups - basically I lost a day to tech - but I’ve always kept it going. One day I did two in a day because I had missed the day before. That is also what I need to do today, as yesterday I was recovering from a night of quite drunken celebration. 3 Slip Ups in 30 days? I think that’s not bad at all. You need to fail a little in order to grow.
