He remembered that video – the Boston Raiders had posted it on their social media as part of some sort of partnership with the local zoo. They’d shown a close-up of the tarantula walking across the back of Ilya’s hand as Marlow could be heard screaming in the background: “Rozanov I swear to fuck stay 10 feet away from me. I don’t trust you with that thing!” Ilya had replied in a gentle whisper: “Shh Marly, I wouldn’t do that. Look, he’s so small – you would hurt him.” The camera had panned up to him, staring at the spider with a gentleness that Shane had only ever seen in Ilya’s eyes when the two of them were alone together. “I’ll keep you safe, malysh.” Shane had watched that video far more times than he cared to admit. The entire internet had gone crazy over it, so at least he wasn’t alone in being completely and desperately horny about it.
