We had the great pleasure of presenting pianist and visual artist, Raymond A. King a few times. He was a participant during our Piano Marathon at Jacobs Music Company in Center City during Make Music Philly back in 2013. He and his quartet was featured in our VSOR television series produced with PhillyCAM and Turtle Studios back in 2015. He also was a featured guest soloist in Lush Life: Philadelphia Celebrates Billy Strayhorn concert at Suzanne Roberts Theater back in 2014. Raymond A. King was not a household Jazz name. He like so many Philly artists, was a musicians' musician. They dramatically define the difference between the terms, "great" and "famous." Raymond A. King was a great one. He was present and in association with artists like Horace Tapscott, Arthur Blythe, Butch Morris, Lester Robertson, Fred Ho and his longtime collaborator, Philly saxophonist saxophonist Sabir Mateen. We have all lost a brilliant artist, elder and teacher. Raymond A. King will be missed, but his music lives on. Rest In Power. To Learn More About Raymond A.
