“Be kind to the Monk in the 5 Spot who plays lone chord-bangs on his vast piano lost in space on a bench and hearing himself in the nightclub universe—” (Allen Ginsberg - Who Be Kind to) Celebrating @intljazzday’s 10th Anniversary (chaired and led by Herbie Hancock & UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay) This year it’s drawing special attention to jazz musicians worldwide hit by the pandemic who depend on performing for a living. So, as Herbie says, put on your favorite Jazz record and celebrate your favorite jazz artist! Jazz On A Summer's Day (1959)
Directed by Bert Stern
“Thelonious Monk - Live Zurich 1964”. Once again painting music, I would have loved to attend this concert in person.Monk has something special, listening to his music is like observing an abstract painting that paints itself. Tempera, acrylic paint and oil sticks on plywood. Una vez mas pintando musica, me hubiera encantado acudir en persona a este concierto.Monk tiene algo especial, escuchar su musica es como observar una pintura abstracta que se pinta a si misma. Tempera, pintura acrílica y pasteles sobre contrachapado. #painting#theloniousmonk#jazz#Berlin#oscarrey#oscarangelreysoto#oscaratelier#art#arte#fineart#zurich#livepainting#artgallery#contemporaryart#collage#acrilico#painting#luxury#artgallery#contemporary#artcollector#artaddict#Malerei#zeichnungen#curator#fineart#artdealer#artista#monk (hier: Berlin, Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCIHbMSqsKY/?igshid=lx1rwcf0m84k

French writer Roland Barthes talked about the punctum as the detail in a photograph that makes it all click and resonate. It is an element of mystery and revelation, conveying meaning and aesthetic satisfaction. In this case, there are just too many — the light from the door framing Monk’s bulk, the sign at the back, the open upright piano, the shadow of the lightbulb near the ceiling, the nonchalant cigarette and the fat ring, the fully-buttoned double-breasted jacket or simply Monk’s patient and piercing gaze.
