A small game similar to Wolfenstein 3D made entirely in JS. No WebGL just the HTML 5 canvas api.
I’ve been building a Wolfenstein 3D / ES: Arena-style renderer from scratch in plain JavaScript on the HTML5 Canvas. This isn’t WebGL; it’s a real, authentic, old-school raycaster using the same techniques as those games: per-column DDA ray stepping on a 2D grid, proper distance-corrected texturing, floor/ceiling casting, a z-buffer for sprite occlusion, Archways, Mid Textures, windows you can see through (Portals Sorta.) the works.
This last update smooths out Firefox support, smoother performance, and a bunch of gameplay/visual upgrades. If you’re into retro tech or just curious how 90s 3D was faked, give it a spin and tell me what you think.
Updates on my completely custom made javascript raycaster game engine!
Vehicle Dynamics: Improve Handling & Safety
I’m trying to build a simple raycast vehicle simulation, but I’m having trouble applying forces at the wheels instead of the center of gravity. Specifically, I can’t get a normal force to hold the car up without creating an oscillation forward and backward. This is a common challenge when simulating vehicles with non-centered mass distributions. In my test setup, there’s a motorcycle on flat…
Scratch Raycasting Engine v0.9
This is a 3D engine made using the Scratch block-based programming engine. It features realistic lighting, shadows, textures, sprites, spatial sound, and more. I forgot to post this version on Tumblr when I released it, but it's easily the largest release yet.

Scratch Raycasting Engine, v0.7
This release adds variable wall heights, bilinear texture filtering, and even more features!
TurboWarp is a Scratch mod with a compiler to run projects faster, dark mode for your eyes, a bunch of addons to improve the editor, and mor
hello! sorry for not posting for a while. i've been working on my raycasting engine! i added variable heights, bilinear texture filtering (it's not as bad as i thought it would be; the geometrical interpretation with weights is pretty fun) and re-implemented floor and ceiling casting!
Raycasting on an NES
Well, Famicom rather, but it does work on the NES too, haha.
Here's a textured raycaster running on my AV Famicom, but it should work with any other Famicom-compatible hardware. [...]
