This shoot was one of the major travel highlights of my 30 year career as a make up artist, back in the days when magazines had budgets and vision and traveling all over the world was a regular thing! This trip was filled with so many magic moments! With the incomparable photographer director @Dewey nicks leading the way with his signature style and joie de vivre! For #marieclairemagazine with @the_line_up fashion stylist and editor extraordinaire, and the incorrigible genius hairdresser #maestro #rayallington #godresthissweetsoul We flew in to camp on a tiny plane landed on a strip in the middle of the Masai Mara plains, all the Zebras Elephants and other animals scattered as we landed! It was like a scene from out of Africa !!! We had to take a little tiny row boat touching the water to get to and from our camp and the guards would shine their flashlights onto the red eyes of the hippos and the crocodiles as we crossed the river at dusk after our sunset shoots. We all got handmade OG desert boots made, they drew around our feet for the size! We got to be with the Masai Mara in their Village with the amazing Mary the dignified Queen of her clan. Their welcoming songs and dances blew open all of our hearts. The Masai are the gentlest wisest souls and warriors I have ever met. Then there was the day we got up at dawn and went out on foot with a special trekker guarding us on the lookout for lions and such, as we shot the radiant #nicolevassell in Masai Red inspired designer gowns. On our way back to camp our jeep was blocked by a Black Maned Lion in our path who roared away while we sat in awe. The roar of a male lion can be heard up to 10km away! Such Power and Strength in his presence. So in the Masai folklore, they say that seeing a black maned lion and especially hearing them roar, is a sign of fertility. At that time, I was really wanting to get pregnant with my first child, it was springtime ‘97 then and by that September I was pregnant with @noahbobrowsky who was born June 1998 and is now almost 21! There was a lot more but way too long for an Insta post!
