light is a senior who has a biology class (taught by ryuk who thinks human biology is so interesting) with L, raye and takada and for their final they have to successfully grow four viable lactobacillus cultures. after the  class labels their dishes and before they actually begin, light, for one reason or another, starts to slowly contaminate dishes one by one, causing them to have ten points docked for improper storage and have to restart the process.

after a few are done, L starts to notice a pattern and confides in raye. raye tries to hunt down the culprit himself but once light senses he’s getting to close raye’s four dishes all end up falling to the floor and shattering them.

naomi's a junior year earth science student at the same hour and raye’s girlfriend who, after that, wants to help L. student council’s mikami catches her sneaking in and out and gets her in trouble.

misa’s an enthusiastic sophomore who takes a chemistry class the hour before light, so she can sneak into the lab and lead off light’s trail. plus, chem teacher rem is very lenient with her.

mikami and takada (light’s ex) are members of student council, president and head of announcements, who look up to light a lot and always put in a good word for him whenever possible.

the wammy boys are freshmen who L seeks out to help with any future situations like this after he graduates and watari is a school counselor.  there’s also the task force, who’s a law club headed up by mr. yagami, the school cop and light’s dad.

who else... sayu. sayu is a middle school student and sachiko is a Very involved school mom. then there’s the yotsuba group: a bunch of corrupt teacher trying to take money from school funds
