A man's prerogative
It wasn't that he had planned to keep the damned rifle in the first place.
Niragi could remember vividly how he had come by it: him scrambling back pathetically for his life like the cockroach that they liked to call him as, blindly groping in the dark whatever it was that his foot hit. It had barely registered to him that he had been clutching a trigger and pointing at the killer who would have been his end right there and then.
He remembered the warm, sticky spray of blood on his face and arms, his hands that hadn't stopped shaking until an hour later when he puked his guts out.
It was the first person he killed, and it was his very first victory, not only in these gruesome games but after all the years of torment where he had been kicked down and had been asked to stand up again to repeat the process over and over.
That time in the dark, Niragi stood up alone to defend himself, and it left him feeling deprived because he could have done the same thing earlier. It was disparaging, to think that it was his fault all along for not fighting back.
It was easier to inflict hurt since then.
"Did you steal it?" Last Boss clacked the first time they spoke. "That gun. You stole it from your first kill?" He pulled his katana and made a show of its gleaming sharp edge. "Mine was. Ran her through with it too."
This bald man riddled with tattoos all over his skin and with a peculiar behavior unsettled Niragi, true, though at that point, he had seen and experienced in successions things that would have brought down the old him quivering in fear to be even frightened by Last Boss.
They were on the same side now and following the same man, but they weren't friends; no one was, he believed. Not on this land where you could never go back to what you had been once you stepped foot.
It was either you kill your own past or you die with it.
"Something like that," Niragi grunted a while later, wiping the metal clean that it distortedly reflected his sneering face, wildly growing hair, and hateful eyes that weren't hidden by thick glasses.
It wasn't that unknown killer that Niragi killed that day, he knew that now.
