He got pretty good at it! There were still quite a few words he didn't know, but he could read most books easily. And when he found a new word, he would ask Neil, Dream, or Nightmare.
Yes! Classic actually brought a few history books from his universe for the twins to read. It became somewhat of a game, where they would teach each other their written language.

Classic omitted a lot of details about the resets. He focused more on that resets existed than what exactly happened in each. So, Papyrus knows the basics- how a reset functions, that their behavior each reset was predictable (Classic did not explain the script), and that it had been going on for a while.
Papyrus took it rather well, all things considered! He had some questions understandably, and was most distressed about his brother hiding it at all.
To your second question, Classic's and Asriel's healing process is... let's call it complicated. Asriel did not come back immediately. He only reunited with his parents a little after the barrier broke. As Flowey, he didn't have to deal with too much guilt. But as soon as his feelings returned, it all hit him at once.
It was rough.
Classic was less lucky. As soon as Frisk was deleted, he had no shield nor time to process anything before it was all said and done. Flowey avoided the skeleton brothers after that, much to Papyrus's sorrow. Classic's health deteriorated, and he began to lose sleep.
It was a bit better when Papyrus was brought into the loop of the resets, but Classic had a heavy pocket at the time. When he finally found Flowey, they had a sit down where they agreed that Frisk should remain a mystery to Monsterkind.
It was hard not to notice Classic's visible decline. Besides disappearing from Grillby's and abandoning his guard shacks, it was rare to see him.
He also stopped joking for a while.
i have a bit of a weird question. in STTMH swap has been kidnapped two times - the first time by error and the second by nightmare's gang. are these events based on something that already exists? like a comic, or another fanfic? i thought that the time swap was kidnapped by error was based on the "ask error" comic made by error's creator, but i realized there were some differences between the comic and your fanfic, so i'm not super sure now. and i can't think of any fanmade stuff where swap gets kidnapped by nightmare, so i'm curious. i hope this makes sense lol
Swap being kidnapped is entirely separate from Error's canon comic! It occurred under different circumstances and was a different series of events. His kidnapping by the Gang is also separated from any other creator.
In fact, one of the main reasons *someone* decided to steal Swap was due to Error's interest in him *stares at a very specific skeleton*
