OJT EATS | Rasa Sayang
Sticking with the casual theme that we started with last week, this week’s post is another quick meal but this time in Chinatown. There aren’t actually too many restaurants in Chinatown that I like but Rasa Sayang is one of them.
We ordered this gado gado which apparently is an Indonesian salad made with mixed vegetables, tofu, eggs and peanut sauce. We weren’t really sure what to expect when we ordered this but this was a pleasant surprise. It was pretty simple but tasty and really refreshing!
Less refreshing but at least equally as tasty were these chicken wings. They’re on the menu as Har Cheong Gai. Chicken wings marinated in prawn paste and then deep fried. They came out amazingly crunchy and surprisingly juicy. I really enjoyed these!
One of our favourite Malaysian / Singapore dishes is a classic, roti canai. The bread was crispy, fluffy, flakey; all exactly what you want from a good roti. The coconut curry was also excellent.
Hainanese chicken came on a bed of bean sprouts separate to the rice cooked with chicken broth and the chilli and ginger sauces. The rice was delicious, really fragrant and aromatic. The chicken was great, although I think I would’ve liked the soy sauce on the side rather than poured over but that’s just me.
On top of that, we wanted a little bit of greens so we ordered a portion of choi sum. Crunchy, well seasoned and fresh. Not sure how but I find vegetables in restaurants are always just a bit tastier than when making them at home!
Rasa Sayang is a bit of a go-to favourite for us in Chinatown. It actually moved to Soho for a little bit during the lockdown while they refurbished their original spot and it’s nice to see them back!
