he had to laugh, just a little bit, at her words, eyeing the chair in question. zack was definitely going to kill them, but hey - it was life. and what fun would life be without a few horrible pranks to play along the way. ❛ very true, kim. and it’s definitely not our fault if a chair breaks as soon as someone sits in it because of a missing screw. shit happens from time to time. ❜ his words were dripping with sarcasm, having WAY too much fun with the pranking. going around pulling stupid stunts with her was a good feeling. he was having a good time for once, not concerned about rita or her monsters for the first time in a long time.
She could practically feel Zack’s gaze on them, and since she was doing her best not to actually incriminate either of them, she decided to keep her own eyes on Tommy. A soft snicker slowly bubbled up from Kim’s chest as she nudged the other boy with her shoulder and dropped him a wink. “Exactly. And I mean, how are we supposed to know if a chair’s defective? I’m not trying to check every chair for missing parts. I have stuff to do.” Pausing for a moment, Kimberly laid her chin atop her arms which were crossed over her desk and peered at Tommy from beneath her lashes. “This is why Jason says we can’t sit next to each other, isn’t it?”

Wasn’t the whole superhero thing supposed to be bright and fun and campy? That was always how it was in the comics, right? The near-constant stream of trauma never left scars, never broke anyone. Because they were superheroes, and they could handle it, they could go back to work or school the morning after almost dying and be perfectly fine.
So why couldn’t Kim do that?
Why had she spent every single free moment she had in the pit, beating the hell out of herself more than the simulations she kept making Alpha run? Why had it been getting steadily worse? When had she started waking up every morning (assuming she slept at all) in pain, and when had she started believing that was normal? Truthfully, she wasn’t sure, but she had no intentions of stopping. So when she heard footsteps, felt the presence of another person, she simply shook it off.
“If Jay sent you down to check on me, tell him he’s taking the Mom Friend role way too seriously and I’m fine.”
