Ok I remade my tumblr now what the h*ck do I wanna use it for?
I remember when you used to be able to filter posts in a tag you were looking through by the type of post.
Unless instead of a feature that tumblr had and killed that was a feature that came from an extension. But I'm pretty sure it was the former.
Honestly it's just another point of annoyance in an increasingly visual (and specifically video-centric) social internet, when half the time what I really want to see are posts by people digging deep into their thoughts on things. It's like, the reason I like video essays is for the essays, not the video. Though the video can make the essay more digestible (to me specifically but also to people in general, sure). But honestly, especially with my Kobo that can pull articles down from Pocket Instapaper, I've lowkey been wanting to source more written essays rather than video essays, but still on similar topics. Might be a bit of a fool's errand there because some of the video essays I tend to enjoy work well in that medium in part /because/ they are videos. Like the ones that analyze movies or video games, and use footage therein as they do so.
And as much as I rail against it, I can't deny that the whole reason visually interesting media is taking over is /because/ it's eyecatching, /because/ it grabs and holds attention. It takes focus to read words on a page. You might just zone out to a video if you're not that interested, but bright and colorful and motion still keep you engaged. And now that internet speeds and bandwidth can (generally speaking) support it, it's off to the races. And then tiktok hit and it all really went to hell with algorithms and endlessly scrolling the skinner boxes.
Anyway. This post brought to you by the fact that I popped into a tag for a game on the off chance I'd find people talking about their OCs/builds and the best it could offer me was 99% gifs and pictures and 0 ways to narrow it down.
Oops it's April Fools and instead of fun and whimsy I'm reblogging posts about the US gov't's relationship with fascism and writing a novel in the tags my bad
Got tagged by @ivoryvee to post about my most recently listened to song, and I too, have listened to a bunch of video game music recently so here's the last three things I've listened to on repeat.
Thump Brothers by Flexstyle - (a remix of a DKC3 GBA....boss fight I think? I never even played that game, just found this remix in a vacuum and it's a bop)
Rooftop Run - There was a conversation happening about how Xbox360 and PS3 and such are retro consoles are ~retro~ now (given that they're like 20 years old now 💀) and I brought up that I had Sonic Unleashed but basically didn't play it. To which someone brought up Rooftop Run. Which is a certified banger that I didn't even realize came from that game (to show you how much I played it). Though to be fair I'm pretty sure I heard of Rooftop Run via Sonic Generations. Even though I didn't play that either.
Uhhh...the entirety of the album Red Forest by If These Trees Could Talk - Kind of a major tonal shift from the last two, admittedly. Much more somber. Even melancholy (both of the albums I've listened to by this band are that way) but excellent instrumentals regardless.
I'll tag @endvertex @decadentdeviation and @licoricefern

Did you ever get a chance to watch When Harry Met Sally?
In fact I did not! Nor any of the other movies I intended to watch since, uh.....at least Halloween. If not further back. Outside of Sinners. Which, if I was only gonna manage to make myself sit down and watch one, Sinners was a great one to do that for.
I am putting together a list of stuff I wanna hit (movies, games, books) this year, so hopefully I'll have an easier time of it.
I've gotta get better about dream journaling again. And also journaling in general. But I actually used to do dream journaling and kind of fell out of the habit.
Unfortunately, I only barely remember the dream I had last night, which included me and a(n essentially) nameless romantic interest being part of a group that could do...some kind of superpower that had something to do with manipulating energy? I think? There was some fighting of bad guys, and some kind of interpersonal issues that I barely remember. Very dramatic, and I seem to recall the dream ending more melancholy than anything. So presumably even though I don't remember it clearly it ended with me and the love interest drifting apart for one reason or another.
And then of course the other night I had Yet Another Back In School Dream. Thankfully those dreams for me tend to not even qualify as stress dreams. At some point in the past I just kind of adopted a "take it as it comes" laid back approach and since then those kinds of dreams just kinda wash over me without too many negative emotions. Specifically, among other things, that dream had to do with me prepping for graduating high school. And for some reason I had an outfit mostly planned out but I was missing some pieces of it, and when I showed up at this communal clothes....borrowing thing for the graduates, I realized I didn't have the clothes I /did/ have, and when I went to ask a teacher if I could go and grab them (because we were like. Approaching the time of the graduation ceremony) I got told that I couldn't, as I "should know from the explanation we gave everybody before" (which I may or may not have missed in the dream). But then a voice came over the PA system and said we had 40 minutes to go, and I pointed out that I lived close to the school so I could make it home and back with plenty of time to spare. But I think I woke up before it progressed beyond that. Also at some other part of that dream, there was also some kind of like...carnival being thrown as a celebration for the graduates, including a lot of games where you could win prizes. I seem to recall there being some kind of issue there as well, but I'm blanking on what exactly it was.
But yeah if I'm gonna be dreaming more again I should really start jotting them down again.
I like how I finally got my psych followup scheduled (I waited too long and my 3 month followup landed too close to Christmas so it basically got delayed a month) And then I see the weather and this weekend is gonna be an absolute mess that I would not be surprised to see last well beyond my appointment date.
So. I might need to leave early and take a leisurely walk to my appointment if there's still a ton of snow (or ice or whatever) on the ground. Assuming it doesn't get canceled. Which would be. Annoying.
