Ngl puritain culture is the worst thing to come out of modern fandom. I legit remember people 5 years ago telling others to not interact with things they don't like and everyone agreeing on it. But now fandom interactions are so twisted and legit put more actual people in danger than these characters and hypothetical 'children' these puritains want to protect. And it's also kind of spreading everywhere which is upsetting.
Purity culture, and this weird aversion to being associated with anything that isnāt explicitly woke. Like somehow passively experiencing something that isnāt 100% woke will make you a bad person.
I even see this shit bleed into real life sometimes. Back when I was a freshman in college I took an Abnormal Psych class and holy fucking shit, the unit on gender and sexuality was a nightmare. Generally speaking, we would learn the historical context of certain disorders as well as their modern DSM iterations and criteria.
People in the 1950ā²s obviously didnāt view these things like we do now, but itās part of the course so we had to learn it. At the beginning of the unit the professor literally stood up and said, āHey this is pretty uncomfortable, a lot of these views are outdated and I donāt agree with them, but I have to teach you this because itās important to know the history.ā
Despite this disclaimer, there would be one person constantly interrupting the professor to proclaim how woke they are and argue over what was being taught. Every. Fucking. Time.

Iām not entirely convinced this isnāt a universal experience, too. Two years later my friend took Abnormal Psych and, you guessed it, spent the entire gender and sexuality unit complaining about that one asshole that just wouldnāt let it go.Ā
