Reflecting on Lockdown again (top tier secondary antagonist. tfa was cooking when they introduced him to the franchise) and specifically how hes an antagonistic force to the cyber-ninja dojo, its interesting to think how his expulsion and Yoketrons subsequent murder would have effected everyone else.
Like we know how it effected Prowl, and we know Jazz holds his memory in high regard. I like to think Grandus misses him in much the same way he'd miss a beloved father (even if he wouldn't necessarily word it like that).
In the case of Dai Atlas he takes over the Cyber-Ninja corps and tries to reform it after Prowl dies. And thats interesting because I think Yoketron meant for Prowl to take over for him after he died NOT Dai Atlas. Which creates a degree of interest for me.
I mean, Dai Atlas was a way more senior student to Yoketron than Prowl, and was presumably a very good one. It could be argued that Dai Atlas simply didn't have the same body of skill and knowledge Prowl had and so got passed over. However i think its way way more interesting if it was a matter of Prowl being more ready and suited for Yoketrons overall teaching philosophy than Dai Atlas was.
What I'm saying is that I think Dai Atlas might have some internalized conflicts regarding Yoketrons teaching philosophy and that it could be influenced by what happened with Lockdown. Like, Yoketron made it a point not to just take on students from the best and brightest of cybertronian society but to give people who had potential a real chance to improve themselves. He likely extended this philosophy to Lockdown when he took him on as a student, and may have given him chances Dai Atlas may not have felt he deserved.
So of course when Lockdown ultimately goes far enough that Yoketron feels the need to give him the boot Dai Atlas would feel vindicated though concerned. May even wonder why Yoketron bothers with people like Lockdown when they're just going to let him down.
Recall that Dai Atlas is implied to be a highly born socialite. While he was ultimately right about Lockdown I think its possible his own deeply ingrained prejudices mightve influenced his reactions. And of course when Lockdown KILLS Yoketron it'd reinforce that idea.
Dai Atlas doesnt want to throw away Yoketrons philosophy on who to take on as students out of respect for his memory, but he has his doubts as to its justification. How can he just trust that bots everyone else has dismissed won't prove their reputations justified?
I think the reason he wouldn't just dismiss the idea outright would be because of other ninja bots, like Prowl, being evidence that Yoketrons methods bear fruit and are, at least sometimes, justified. So he's kinda left with indecision when hes given the keys to the dojo and left to rebuild.
He's the one in charge now. How will HE run the place?
And I think thats kinda where Drift comes in. By all rights, Drift is probably an even less desirable potential student than Lockdown might've been. At least Lockdown started out as an Autobot, whereas Drift was born a decepticon.
However I think Drift is Dai Atlas' attempted to prove his old masters philosophy right. He WANTS Yoketron to have been right and him to be wrong, and he wants to feel justified in carrying that philosophy out. And I think this desire might effect how Drift develops under Dai Atlas' care and how their relationship develops over time.
