Gansey/Ronan 3, 4, & 6? 👀
OTP Established Relationship Asks
Yes! Thank you ive been dying to share my Ronsey ideas... and well. They're long answers cuz I got stuff to say 😅
3. Have they ever considered splitting up?
Not at the same time and never because of something the other has done. Gansey 100% has posed the question 'should we break up?' A handful of times because he thinks he takes too much proactive care of Ronan, that he stifles him in some way, usually because he's asking him to /please/ not do anything self-destructive and he ends up picking over the moral quandary of whether it's better for Ronan to live and make mistakes or to be 'guided' to a better direction. To quote richard siken, its 'love streaming out the wrong way' when he oversteps boundaries around what hes allowd to tell Ronan he can and can't do. All quips about leashing his dog aside, he really cant stand the idea of anything bad happening to Ronan, and that's where it all stems from. When he voices this concern, as he inevitably always does, its typically greeted with ronan's dead eyed stare and an even more deadpan response of 'are you stupid?' Followed by an aggravatingly long conversation about their feelings.
Ronan has, possibly bi-weekly, wondered if they should seperate. Part of it is a reflex from when he was in high school, still grieving his father, and diving headlong into everything that could hurt him with only the afterthought of who else would get caught in the crossfire. I imagine hes better by the time their established relationship happens but god it's still a lot of junk to work through. The other part of it comes from that fact that it's a lot and its tedious to work through and it feels like it's taking forever. He thinks gansey can do better. He never gets around to voicing his thoughts. His brooding is so loud that gansey cant help but notice and he dive bombs ronan with affirmations and love until Ronans thoroughly flustered and just shaking him off going 'Jesus Christ, you're so embarrassing.'
4. What do they consider to be each other’s most annoying habits?
They're both 'project' people. They're constantly building, diagramming, researching, etc for whatever their current hyperfixation is. It's great when they're on the same page. Horrid when they're not because the living space will become cluttered with ganseys indoor dioramas and Ronan will bitch about it being constantly underfoot even as they eat cereal in the middle of the project's hurricane of parts.
Gansey, politely, never says anything about the yard and driveway looking like an abandoned theme park. But he does think that leaving the dishes everywhere - EVERYWHERE, in EVERY ROOM- unacceptable. Ronans horrible about just putting things down and leaving it/losing track of it when he gets an idea and one day gansey cleans up like 4 plates with the same sort of sandwich in various stages of eaten and leaves them all in the bed because that is the only place Ronan will find them and clean them up himself. (Jokes on him though because Ronan then sleeps on the floor out of spite because 'you could have just asked, you passive-agressive neurotic.'
6. What things have tested their relationship over the years?
Sometimes it feels like theres always something testing the strength of their relationship. When they were younger, People kind of expected them to get together but their assumptions of what the relationship would be like were usually verging on toxic and it chafed them both for anyone else to assume theyd be bad for one another, and they both went about correcting people in polar opposite directions. It resulted in at least one honest to god fight because Ronan bit off someones head for implying gansey was anything less than the best thing to happen to him and gansey thought it was just too over the top. Basically saying 'we'll be that couple with no friends if you dont stop' and Ronan saying 'Adam and blue' only to receive the hugest eye roll because I imagine those relationships are still as quasi romantic as they've ever been. Gansey's rebukes were often more calm, but no less firm. He'd shut that shit down real quick, but he never seemed to get angry at it. A second honest to god fight was had over why he DIDNT bite someones head off when they made a joke about gansey being in his 'bad boy' phase. Very over the top stuff young couples might get into. As they got older it happened less or mattered less depending on who you asked and the major hurdles became internal and harder to work on. Gansey wanting to feel less worshipped and more loved; needing Ronan to articulate his worries more often. Ronan needing to set up boundaries on how/when/why gansey could take care of him so that his role was less parent and more partner; recognizing their diverging interests and recognizing it doesnt mean a lack of love; dealing with the feeling of abandonment whenever gansey joins a friend or colleague on a roadtrip/academic excursion. They ways work it out but sometimes theres a lot to unpack.
