@devilishyhandsomefriend told me he was cast and announced as such, yes, but... I’m side-eyeing it.

Okay first of all, you have all this mystery about who he is, and what he’s capable of, and then you cast him early and announce that’s who he is? It sounds a little bit like LOOK OVER HERE LOOK OVER HERE. Now, obviously I could be wrong. But. These writers are the kings/queens of zomgz plot twists, so I’m going to assume that the Sinnerman is not who or what they are presenting him as, until proven otherwise. A huge bait-and-switch is not at all out of the question, because really, why give away this big/central mystery so soon?

Next, why spend all episode establishing Reese as someone with all this motive and knowledge and grudge against Lucifer, just for him to... die and never be seen again? In story-telling terms, that is pointless. You don’t make a character that powerful and then never see them again. Why spend this entire episode on Reese, even as a standalone, just to kill him off, and then for us to see him in hell, after Lucifer has told him that people can get out, if he doesn’t fit in somehow? Otherwise, narratively, this episode is a waste, and... it didn’t feel that way to me. We know the Sinnerman is mirroring/echoing Lucifer, and the guy supposedly playing him hasn’t shown up yet, whereas they devoted this entire episode to establishing a story that technically started back in s1 and with someone who is one of the few people to know the full truth about Lucifer (and we still don’t know how he did that, or if he’s just been spying on him the whole time). Anyway -- Chekhov’s Gun is all I’m saying.

We were also reminded of Malcolm Graham this episode, who likewise briefly died and returned from hell, and Charlotte Richards has also returned from hell, strictly speaking, since her soul was in hell while Mum was in her body. So someone who full-on returned from hell would be a very formidable opponent.
