ok little mini-rant/ramble about something thatās always miffed me
i see fanfic writers all the time write ezekiel with a peanut allergy and it fricken salts my apples. he does Not have a peanut allergy guys.
ok for one, he grew up on a farm, surrounded by plenty of animals and germs and dirt and stuff. itās apparent, according to Scott Hesel of University of Rochester Medicine, that children growing up in rural and especially farming environments are much less likely to develop allergies, likely due to the exposure to microbes and other grime leading to a more tolerant immune system thatās less likely to react to the false alarms that allergies incite (source). thus, it would be pretty odd for ezekiel to have a peanut allergy, yo.
speaking of that line, he disproves himself almost immediately! after he says that, he amends the statement with āer, more like a sensitivity?ā showing some level of falsehood in his initial claim.
then! he interrupts chrisās exposition with āokay, i just donāt liāā before chris flings zekeās ass out the plane. this sentence is heavily implied, based on zekeās earlier amendment, to be saying that he just doesnāt like peanuts. that heās Not allergic to them.
not only does this line give us much needed (/not serious) not-allergic-to-peanuts-but-refuses-to-eat-them-anyway representation, but it also serves to characterize ezekiel! it shows that heās a terrible liar, as he folds under absolutely zero pressure, which is a very comedic and subtle way to reveal this aspect of him (and couldāve served as nice foreshadowing to a plot point involving his inability to lie. you know if the writers Actually Fucking Used Him). which is why im sad so many people overlook these lines and take what he says there as true, when itās quite evident that itās not.
so tldr Ezekiel Does Not Have A Peanut Allergy!!! itās all a ploy by Big Twink to have all the total drama twinks have some sorta allergy so that theyre!!!! uh!!! twinkier!!! yeah!! donāt fall for Big Twinkās schemes. (even if their mascot is āthe schemerā)
