“During our time there (Costa Rica) we worked on a piece inspired by the beautiful flora & fauna around the property. This was our first trip to Costa Rica yet it felt so familiar, it was like walking into one of our own artworks. It was so heartwarming to see the respect Costa Ricans’ have for nature and we absolutely fell in love with this place. We were inspired by the experience of being engulfed by the vast intricate rain forests & the surrounding mangroves, and this is a glimpse into one of the layers from the intricate artwork we created.” This is one of the mind-blowing backlit papercuts created by the duo @harianddeepti. I understand we’re all angry and upset about the Amazon burning, and frantic reblogs and a petition can make us feel less powerless, but why do we think the president of Brazil cares that random foreigners (most of whom are from countries that are actively causing massive environmental damage) are upset about his policies? Why do we think farmers in Brazil care?
You actually want to do something? Boycott companies profiting off the destruction of the rainforest. Donate to indigenous groups protecting the rainforest (NOT the conservation NGOs who are part of the problem.) Talk to your family and friends about doing the same. Call your -- yes, YOUR -- government and ask them to donate. You have voices and power, but it’s as consumers and as voters in your own countries.
