i JUST realized how much book DM has already made it to our screens without even noticing. Like:
when Daniel is still interviewing Louis and Armand is cosplaying Rashid, feeding him seven course meals, Daniel jokes about "fattening him up for the inevitable demise"
....how book-Armand ordered everything on the menu to watch Daniel eat. Oh. I'm blind.
what else did I miss!!😭 is there anything, in your opinion that they've snuck in there already from the book that maybe has slipped over our heads because it's an adaptation rather than 1:1?
The writers' room has done a masterful job of it, haven't they? The food scene is perhaps the closest the show gives us to a directly-adapted scene from the Devil's Minion chapter (and there is the promise of one yet to come; 3x04 drops a hint), although there are elements of it scattered everywhere throughout the narrative, including:
Daniel and Armand bicker and argue periodically throughout their relationship in the QotD chapter. The bickering is adorable, and the arguments are sometimes explosive enough that Armand ends up in tears. The show has demonstrated how they bicker and goad each other in this new, adapted context almost from the start.
In the book, Armand provides for Daniel's every need, constantly. Food, clothing, entertainment, travel, you name it. Now, in the show, whether it's in his role as Fake Rashid or in his continued involvement as just himself once the reveal takes place, Armand is the one catering to Daniel, seeing to it that Daniel is utterly spoiled.
All of the longing looks that Armand and Daniel share, period.
In the show, Armand's mention of Amazon not trying to sell them blenders is a clear nod to Armand's blender shenanigans in the novel. I laughed my ass off.
In the book and in the show, Armand is the one to turn Daniel. I thought it was an understated, brilliant moment, that look we see on Armand-as-Rashid's face when Louis offers to turn him. The thought of someone else getting to do it so distressing to him. You asked me which moment is my favorite? This one. This is it.
...Although that may end up being overridden by some mentions of things in Season 3 that I cannot detail. The promise of what's to come in the future as far as DM content, whether this season or in Season 4, is spectacular.
