Hey, I'm back! It's been quite a while. I just started Anicon and I'm loving how light and quirky it is! Question for you: as a writer do you find yourself taking different approaches or getting in different mindsets to produce different style works? For example, between Area-X and Anicon, do you notice any changes in your method, process, etc.? I'm so curious to know!
Glad you like it~ ^^
Well, before I started making games, I used to draw lots of manga, and I never stick with writing just one genre. It’s partially because I have quite broad taste, so monkey sees, monkey does. I see anything that looks interesting, and I get inspired by it.
The other factor that decides what kind of story I write is my mood. I usually go like this: Light-hearted > serious > light-hearted > serious, and the cycle continues. I get bored easily if I make the same thing for an extended period of time. That’s why my sub-sequence work tends to be very different from the previous one I worked on.
Other than story, I also try to improve what I lack in my previous works. Like I was told my characters are lacking distinguishing dialogues (aka everyone talks the same way), so I tried to put more emphasis on that in Anicon, and made everyone has their own way of talking. I was also told I lack vocabulary, so I’ve been keeping a list of new vocab every day, and try to apply them in my next work.
Unfortunately, English is not my first language (it’s my second/third language along with Mandarin). I still have a hard time trying to vary my writing style, so I most likely still suck at this. lol
Outside of writing, I also focused on the overall atmosphere of the setting. I chose happy musics, brightly-colored GUI, added roses and sparkles (lol), etc. I also decided to add lots of poses and animation, so everything seems more animated and lively. I’m better with visual, so hopefully those stuff help my inadequate writing skill. ^^;
